Cool New Comics

We've just gotten in a batch of The Cartoon Picayune, a comic published in Washington DC by editor Josh Kramer that is dedicated to real life journalist reporting, from Vermont high school ski jump teams to the politician behind rebuilding Beirut after the civil war. Plus we just got the first issue of a weekly kids comic from the UK, The Phoenix! The first issue is available at our Vienna store now for $4.99 and it is action-packed, colorful, and just plain ol' awesome! We will have new issues every week from now on.

If there are any cool comics out there that we don't have, let us know! We are always on the lookout for great new comics to carry.

Feel free to forward on our newsletter, and please send us any comments or mailing list requests to vienna@bigplanetcomics.com

Best Of Enemies: A History of U.S. And Middle East Relations 1: 1783-1953 HC

by Jean-Pierre Filiu and David B.

A fascinating look at the interactions of America and Middle Eastern countries, from naval battles over piracy in the 18th century ("to the shores of Tripoli") to the CIA trying to overthrow the government of Iran. Perfectly matched by the surreal and imaginative art of David B. (Epileptic).

Dancer #1

by Nathan Edmondson and Nic Klein

Another espionage thriller by Edmondson (The Activity) in the vein of his first hit, Who is Jake Ellis? but joined by Klein, the artist of Viking. In Milan, Alan Fisher and his ballerina companion are suddenly being stalked by a sniper and the police, and Fisher must reveal his past as an assassin to help her survive.

The Coldest City HC

by Antony Johnston and Sam Hart
In 1989, as signs increase that the Berlin Wall is about to fall, the 2nd in command of MI6 in Berlin suddenly vanishes, along with a list of every Western spy in the city. Now spy Lorraine Broughton is sent in to try to find him before it is too late. A spy thriller like The Spy Who Came in From the Cold.

But I Really Wanted to Be An Anthopologist... HC

by Margaux Motin
Chicklit comes back to comics with Margaux Motin's funny look at being a mother, an artist, a wife, and trying to survive life in Paris! In the vein of Naughty Bits, Motin's excellent cartooning tells her stories in 1 to 3 page strips, with a great vernacular translation.

Are You My Mother?: A Comic Drama HC

by Alison Bechdel

The long-awaited follow up to Alison Bechdel's multi-award winning memoir Fun Home takes a look at Bechdel's complicated relationship with her artistic, eccentric, and brilliant mother, and her own experiences with psychotherapy.

Deadenders SC

by Ed Brubaker and Warren Pleece

One of Brubaker's earliest works at Vertigo, the entire 16 issue series in finally collected in one book. After a strange cataclysm, artificial weather is created in a city where the sky is permanently overcast and scooter-riding kids in the slums sell drugs and try to live. One kid, Beezer, seems to be having strange visions of life before the collapse that have scientists after him. Strange and wonderful.

Hardcore #1

by Robert Kirkman and Brian Stelfreeze
A special program allows a man to mentally control anyone who has been inserted with the Hardcore program, and to use them as assassins, spies or more. But when a disgruntled inventor tries to take control of the program, can the Hardcore operative save himself while stuck in a different body?
