Sept: 15-16: Lost Art Books at Small Press Expo

From: Joseph Procopio

Sept. 15-16
Dear friends,
As some of you know, Ellen and I are taking LOST ART BOOKS on the road!
Fortunately, it's a short road, ending in Bethesda, Maryland, where you'll find this year's Small Press Expo (SPX). I've attended this convention for the past dozen years, and Ellen and I started exhibiting books from our press at SPX in 2010. I think it's the best show of its kind anywhere, and everyone I've ever convinced to attend has had a good time, whether they know one end of a graphic novel from another. Trust me, it's where the cool kids are gonna be...
When we exhibit at SPX, I always try to use the occasion to debut our latest book, and this year is no exception. Many years in the making, this year's show marks the release of "The Lost Art of Heinrich Kley, Volumes 1 & 2." If you haven't heard anything about this project, go to our site and watch the book's video trailer (http://www.picturethispress.com/the-lost-art-of-heinrich-kley-volumes-1-2/). Kley is one of the great draftsman, and this is the first book published on him in the United States in 40 years. We're really excited about this one.
And in keeping with the show's DIY spirit, I also like to make something handcrafted that's available exclusively at SPX. At this year's show we'll be offering the latest in our Lost Art Chapbooks series, a cool little book on my favorite pulp artist, Edd Cartier. Again, I construct these little curios by hand, so I only end up making a few, available exclusively at shows like SPX.
We've attached a PDF flier that shows off the books we'll have at the show and provides you a handy map for finding our Lost Art Books booth. Artists and small publishers from around the world exhibit at the Small Press Expo, so we really hope you'll come check out all the cool stuff on offer. It's the craftiest, coolest book show you're ever likely to attend...
Shoot us a line if you think you'll make it!
All the best,
Joe and Ellen

If you did not participate in the past, whether as a fan or an exhibitor, you missed a lot—don't be left out in 2012. 2011 was another terrific year for the show. Attendance was over 3,000 attendees and exhibitors, along with dozens of printers, distributors, retailers, and other industry professionals.
There were over 450 people registered as exhibitors and we sold over 170 exhibitor tables. SPX has a unique format of only selling exhibitor space to independent publishers and not to retailers. This provides a very intimate and friendly atmosphere for our creators and fans to mingle. At the same time, there's a wide array of programming for all to enjoy.
