Richard Thompson finger puppet

Today's puppet in the Post was McCain. I'm sure Richard will put it on his blog later this week. If you make it, hold it under some running water and see if it seems tortured.

Christmas decorating with Richard's Poor Almanack

Saturday's Post had another fun 'do-it-yourself' panel by Richard Thompson. So I cut out the Christmas Curmudgeons and decorated my computer at work.(click on picture for larger version and for extra credit, find Michael Kahn lurking in the background)

The panel didn't come with a manger or anything so I had to make my own tree. Richard discussed the genesis of the panel on his blog - read the comments.

I think he should sponsor a contest for the best decorating scheme.

New finger puppet from Richard Thompson

In yesterday's Richard's Poor Almanack, the new finger puppet was General Petraeus (what does that mean in Latin anyway?). It's not online yet, but should be here eventually. At the moment, that link is to September 8th's End of Summer cartoon.

Fred Thompson finger puppet

Richard Thompson's Richard's Poor Almanack (why'd you add the 'k' anyway?) on Saturday has a Fred Thompson finger puppet... to which I can only say, "Fred Thompson?" Who cares about Fred Thompson? We could have had a Paris Hilton puppet, or a Angela Merkel or a Putin, but we get Fred Thompson? This isn't some underhanded propagandizing by relatives, is it?

Imus fingerpuppet in Richard's Poor Almanack - now with link

Your collection can continue to grow if you track down today's Post and get the Don Imus finger puppet by Richard Thompson. I suppose it'll be online eventually. I'm getting quite a little shelf of these.

Ok, it's up - make your own!

Thompson's Small finger puppet finally online!

Print it,
make it and wear it to the Smithsonian over the weekend! When they stop you at the x-ray machine, wave it in the guards' faces and ask them about endangered birds!

Richard's Poor Almanack

It's still not online, but yesterday's Post cartoon by Richard Thompson was another finger puppet - this time of Smithsonian big-spending Secretary Lawrence Small. My collection grows by leaps and bounds!

Also, he did an awesome caricature of Stalin as a home-improvement contractor in today's Post Magazine, as well as the illo for Joel Achenbach's column where he declined to illustrate the phrase "A nightmare for your consideration: epidemics of genital shrinkage."

None of this is online, of course. I guess the Post doesn't pay for digital repro rights for illos.

Jan 13 Cut & Play Shakespeare Festival in Post

Richard Thompson's Richard's Poor Almanack (note that new spelling) has another set of cutouts today, and there's six of them! DC's staging an area-wide Shakespeare festival this spring (including an adaptation by comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa). This set of cutouts has the greats - Richard III, Lady MacBeth and director Michael Kahn! I'll be making these. Unfortunately, it's not online yet so you'll have to buy, beg or borrow the Post's Style section for p. C3.

Richard Thompson has not paid for mentions in this blog.

Catching up on the weekend Post - Richard's Poor Almanack

Scoop! Richard Thompson changed the way he spells his strip!

Ok, that's not much of a scoop, but the strip "Comic Strip Previews for 2007" is a really good one.

Boy, everybody hates Anthony, don't they?

So, anybody besides me actually cut out and make the fingerpuppets that he draws? I made Sorry Santa today, during a dull moment (rare! I promise!) at work. Unfortunately, it looks as though the Post only links to the most recent panel so you'll have to dig through the two-week old recycling to make yours.
