Strongly disagreeing with the message of Lisa Benson's Feb. 12 editorial cartoon, I acknowledge that there is waste in our government, just as there is waste in my kitchen. The appropriate metaphor for the actions of President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and their foot soldiers is not Democrats protecting waste. It's Republicans throwing out our beloved baby, our "nation conceived in liberty," including those hard-fought-for-and-won unalienable rights, benefits and protections of American citizenship, with the bathwater that accumulates in virtually all gigantic organizations.
