Julian Voloj

Latest Title: Black & White: The Rise and Fall of Bobby Fischer

Julian Voloj is a New York–based writer whose work has been published in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post and many other national and international publications. Born to Colombian parents in Germany, where he studied literature and linguistics, Voloj moved to New York in 2004. His fascination for forgotten heroes and hidden figures stems from his own family history and has been a leitmotif in his non-fiction graphic novels, including "Ghetto Brother" (illustrated by Claudia Ahlering, NBM, 2015), "Joe Shuster" (ill. Thomas Campi, Papercutz, 2018), "Basquiat" (ill. Soren Modal, SelfMadeHero, 2019) and "Clayton: Godfather of Lower East Side Documentary" (various, Post Hill Press, 2022). He will be presenting "Black & White: The Rise and Fall of Bobby Fischer."

Latest Title: Rover and Speck: This Planet Rocks!

Jonathan Roth writes and illustrates chapter books (the "Beep and Bob" series) and graphic novels (the "Rover and Speck"  series) aimed at young readers who like humorous, out-of-this-world adventures. His first picture book (about a piece of cloth that was flown as part of the first airplane, then to the moon and Mars) will come out in 2024. He has lived in Rockville, Md., for 20+ years with his wife and numerous cats. When not creating books or teaching art to kids, he can be found cycling, hiking, canoeing or napping.

Jarrett Lerner

Latest Title: A Work in Progress

Author-illustrator Jarrett Lerner is the award-winning creator of the EngiNerds series of middle grade novels; the Geeger the Robot series of early chapter books; the activity books, "Give This Book a Title"" and "Give This Book a Cover;" the Hunger Heroes series of graphic novel chapter books; the Nat the Cat series of early readers; and the illustrated novel in verse, "A Work in Progress." He lives with his wife and daughters in Massachusetts.

In addition to "A Work in Progress," Jarrett will also be presenting "Hunger Heroes: Snack Cabinet Sabotage" at the 2023 Festival.

Dave Roman

Latest Title: Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity (Astronaut Academy, 1)

Dave Roman is the author/illustrator of the "Astronaut Academy" series (winner of Maryland's Black-Eyed Susan Book Award) and the upcoming graphic novel, "Unicorn Boy!" He's worked as a writer on the graphic novels, "Teen Boat! Race for Boatlantis" (with John Patrick Green) and as an illustrator for "Goosebumps Graphix: Slappy's Tales of Horror" (with R.L. Stine). Dave teaches at the School of Visual Arts, and is currently editor for First Second's History Comics graphic novels. He draws a webcomic called Pup & Duck, lives in New York City, and is always on the lookout for the perfect waffle.

At GBF this year, Dave Roman will be moderating the following panels:

Isabel Roxas

Latest Title: The Adventures of Team Pom: The Last Dodo: Team Pom Book 2

Isabel Roxas is a storyteller and graphic artist. She loves to draw and write stories about curious misfits, young characters who defy the odds and funny animals. She has illustrated several books for young readers, including "Our Skin: A First Conversation about Race," by Megan Madison and Jessica Ralli (ALA Notable Book 2021, SLJ Best Book 2021), and "Day at the Market with May Tobias-Papa" (2010 Philippine National Book Award). Her latest book, "The Adventures of Team Pom: Squid Happens," was selected for the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show and is an EGL Award Finalist.

Isabel was born in Manila, Philippines, was raised on luscious mangoes, old wives' tales and monsoon moons. She now resides in New York City with her husband and several adopted plants.

She will be presenting "The Adventures of Team Pom: The Last Dodo: Team Pom Book 2."

Mika Song

Latest Title: Pizza My Heart: (A Graphic Novel)

Mika Song writes and illustrates children's books about sweetly funny outsiders. She's illustrated several books, including "A Friend for Henry" by Jenn Bailey, which received the Schneider Family Honor from the American Library Association. Her graphic novel for early readers, "Donut Feed the Squirrels," was nominated for an Eisner award. She is based in Queens, N.Y., but grew up in Manila, Philippines, and Honolulu, Hawaii. She loves drawing on paper and visiting schools.

She will be presenting "Pizza My Heart: (A Graphic Novel)."
