Algiers, 1920s. Rabbi Sfar has his hands full with his beautiful daughter becoming a voluptuous young woman and a sarcastic cat that can not only talk, but demands to have a bar mitzvah. Together with a mysterious painter, a wise old Arab Sheikh and an eccentric Russian billionaire they set off on an incredible adventure to find a lost tribe and mythical city. Director/author/comic book artist Joann Sfar's joyful feature film adaptation of his beloved graphic novel celebrates colorful, hand-drawn animation while presenting a very grown-up message of Jewish identity and tolerance.
Co-sponsored by La Maison Française and the Embassy of France
