Library of Congress National Book Festival graphic novel authors

Library of Congress National Book Festival Announces Full Author Lineup
Main Stage to Feature Sandra Cisneros, James S.A. Corey, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Max Greenfield, Tamron Hall, Abby Jimenez, Casey McQuiston, James McBride, James Patterson, Lish Steiling and Rebecca Yarros

The 2024 Library of Congress National Book Festival returns to the Washington Convention Center on Saturday, Aug. 24 and will feature more than 90 authors.

The festival's theme this year, "Books Build Us Up," explores how reading can help connect us and inform our lives. It's through books that readers can develop strong bonds with writers and their ideas — relationships that open the entire world, real or imagined, to us all.

Gene Luen Yang, former National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, and illustrator LeUyen Pham talk about their new romantic comedy graphic novel, "Lunar New Year Love Story," a story about a couple trying to break a love curse.

Graphic novelists Vera Brosgol, creator of "Plain Jane and the Mermaid," and Kazu Kibuishi, creator of "Waverider," the final novel in the Amulet series, discuss their fantasy adventure graphic novels.

Pablo Cartaya, author of "Curveball," and Hena Khan, author of "We Are Big Time," talk about writing graphic novels focused on girls who discover their resilience through their love of sports.

Author Adam Rubin and illustrator Liniers discuss their new laugh-out-loud picture book, "The Truth About the Couch."

That darn Baldo

Cheers for helpful comics [Baldo letter]

Sidney Johnson, Reston

Washington Post June 15 2024: A15

Hooray for the "Baldo" strip in the June 2 Comics section. It paid tribute to the people who come to the United States from other countries intending to contribute fully to American society. In many cases, they know what it is like to live in a repressive one.

It also showcased the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, which for 50 years has encouraged Spanish-speaking citizens to learn how the laws governing voter registration work in their states and to register with that knowledge.

Formerly, this organization was known only in the Southwest. Now, thanks to "Baldo," it reaches nationwide.

Compared to the raving, drooling, mean-girl frenzy that was MSNBC's
"reporting" on the Days Of Our Trump Trial, their "coverage" of the
guilty verdict brought down on iconic Presidential failson Hunter
Biden on Federal gun charges was... well, let's say it was reserved...
reserved, taciturn, crestfallen — somber, even. Seriously, to watch
MSNBC's morning blatherers the day after the verdict, you'd think the
sonofabitch had just died — and, with it, Democracy™ itself.

Makes sense, really; he gets it from his old man, who's also a
stupid-ass gun freak.
