Baltimore Comic-Con Welcomes Back Neal and Josh Adams

Baltimore Comic-Con Welcomes Back Neal and Josh Adams

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - July 31, 2013 - The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the return of Neal and Josh Adams as guests for this year's show, taking place September 7-8, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Neal and Josh join the growing line-up of talent attending the 14th annual show.

Neal Adams Hunger Silver Age artist and creator-rights advocate, Neil Adams' work on such DC Comics characters as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow throughout the '60s and '70s redefined an era of comics, and brought a photo-realistic feel to the pages of their respective books. His eye for detail and definition elevated the art form to levels that had previously been seen only in fantasy illustration.

In the late-'60s, while freelancing for DC Comics, Adams also began working at Marvel Comics on X-Men with Roy Thomas. He continued to work for DC and Marvel throughout the late-'60s and '70s, working on the titles The Avengers, Detective Comics, and Green Lantern/Green Arrow.

In addition, Adams crusaded for years to secure pensions and recognition for Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, creators of Superman and, in 1978, he helped form the Comics Creators Guide. He was inducted into the Eisner Awards' Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Harvey Awards' Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1999. Most recently, he finished working on the covers for Marvel Comics' First X-Men.

Josh Adams Doctor Josh Adams, the artist for IDW's Doctor Who series, has achieved notoriety on the Internet for his exquisitely designed Sherlock Holmes illustrations. He has worked throughout the industry for companies such as DC Comics (House of Mystery, JSA, Batman Odyssey) and Marvel Comics (Astonishing X-Men Motion Comic), as well as on Syfy shows like Eureka, Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13, and Alphas.

"I love Baltimore because they know that the best crabs come from the Bay and the best comics are found at the Baltimore Comic-Con," said Josh of the Baltimore Comic-Con and the city that hosts it.

In addition, Josh launched a new webcomic series in mid-July, called In the Garden of Steven (www.InTheGardenOfSteven.com). Produced by Blind Ferret Entertainment, the comic is written and drawn by Adams, with colors by Luis Delgado and letters by Brandon DeStefano, and follows the (mis)adventures of Steve Morrison after he mysteriously wakes up in the Garden of Eden. The comic posts new strips on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

"We couldn't be happier to have Neal and Josh returning to the show this year," said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. "The Adams' are among the few dynasties in comics, along with the Kuberts and Romitas, and we are honored to host both of them again here in Baltimore!"

The Adamses join our previously announced guests, including: Guest of Honor Stan Lee (Marvel comics), Brian Bolland (Dial H); Mark Buckingham (Fables); Jimmy Cheung (Avengers vs. X-Men); Frank Cho (Savage Wolverine); Amanda Conner (Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre); J.M. DeMatteis (Phantom Stranger); David Finch (Justice League of America); Dave Gibbons (The Secret Service); Keith Giffen (Masters of the Universe); Adam Hughes (Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan); Barry Kitson (Empire); Roger Langridge (Popeye); Paul Levitz (World's Finest); Kevin Maguire (World's Finest); Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie); Mike Mignola (Hellboy In Hell); Jimmy Palmiotti (Batwing); George Perez (World's Finest); David Petersen (Mouse Guard); Joe Prado (Earth 2); Ivan Reis (Aquaman); Chris Samnee (Daredevil); Louise Simonson (X-Factor); Walt Simonson (The Mighty Thor); Kevin Smith (Batman: The Widening Gyre); Allison Sohn (sketch card artist); Mark Waid (Indestructible Hulk), and Bill Willingham (Fables).

In the coming weeks, look for more announcements from the Baltimore Comic-Con. We are looking forward to highlighting our guests, the Harvey Awards, industry exclusives, and programming. The latest developments can always be found on our website, Twitter, and Facebook pages.

PSA: Paul Conrad's Chain Reaction

From: Matt Wuerker

Hey Cartoon Pals, Patriots and Associates--

I'm writing on behalf of an old friend of many of us.  Paul Conrad did a bunch of things, drew a lot of great cartoons, won a bunch of Pulitzers, made Nixon's enemies list, encouraged some of us to do this crazy political cartoon thing... and he also did some great sculpture.  The biggest and most public of these sculptures is now in jeopardy.

Conrad's Chain Reaction is a big bold political sculpture on the grounds of Santa Monica City Hall.  It may be the biggest single and lasting piece of art created by an American political cartoonist… and it's in jeopardy.  Paul's son David and a bunch of art lovers and political activists are mounting an effort to save it.  They need to raise a bunch of money to do this.

If you could donate money directly to the effort (it's tax deductible) that's the simplest way to support their efforts.  If you can do more, donate some art to their upcoming auction  and help recruit others to donate, write about it on your blogs or newsletters all that would help even more.

David's email address is here
David Conrad---   davepconrad@earthlink.net

The background on Chain Reaction and the effort to save it is spelled out here
http://conradprojects.com/

If you know other fans of Conrad, or other lovers of political art who might be supportive be sure to forward this on to them.

best---
M

Matt Davies at Politics and Prose pictures

101_5978

Editorial cartoonist Matt Davies was at Politics and Prose, July 27, 2013 for his new children's book Ben Rides On. Here's some more pictures of him in action.

The book is short, but enjoyable. Davies did a nice chalk talk with children from the audience 'helping' him draw. He kindly let me keep his crow drawing. The Library of Congress (in the person of Sara Duke) got the caricature of his teacher.

Aug 17: Darick Robertson in Annapolis

As reported on Convention Scene:

Artist Darick Robertson signs at Third Eye Comics on Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 11:00am until 1:00pm!

RSVP on Facebook!

Press Release:

Third Eye Faithful, we are totally excited to announce one of our biggest signings of the Summer with the arrival of Darick Robertson to Third Eye Comics this August! Darick is the legendary modern comics artist behind instant classics like TRANSMETROPOLITAN, THE BOYS, and HAPPY! He's done a ton of other excellent work as well, in fact, we'd be here all day if we ran through the list. Let me just say this: we're honored to have the man as a guest at our store this Summer in anticipation of his brand new creator-owned series, BALLISTIC, from BLACK MASK STUDIOS, the publishers of the recent 12 REASONS TO DIE comic.

What's Darick's new project, BALLISTIC, all about? Imagine the cult movie genius of REPO MAN (the '80s one!) distilled into a modern day heist story. A madcap sci-fi buddy adventure about a wanna-be bank robber and his best friend Gun, a drug-addicted, foul-mouthed, living gun, marks Darick Robertson's return to the hard sci-fi worldbuilding of his classic TRANSMETROPOLITAN mixed with THE BOYS' ultra-violence.

Darick will be signing at Third Eye Annapolis from 11AM-1PM on Saturday 8/17. We'll have plenty of copies of all his works available, including his new series, BALLISTIC!
