Project Update #3: The Super-Shakespeare Series by David Miller

Ryan North's Shakespeare project is wildly over-funded - consider a local cartoonist's project!

Project Update #3: A Rose by Any Other Name

by David Miller Like

Greetings, Culture Vultures,
I hope this update finds everyone well and enjoying the holiday spirit. Today's update is a preview of some of the characters that will be performing the immortal words of the Bard. Courtesy of my sketchbook.

I've included some bios so that you can see how I've put some thought to matching up these characters to their Shakespearean counterparts. I know it's a bit obsessive to cast the appropriate super-person to the appropriated cast member. Especially since none of the super-folks' personality will come through. But I just thought it would be more fun this way.

So feel free to scroll down and meet the visual cast of Much Ado About Nothing:

Marc Tyler Nobleman says "Book signing THIS Wednesday evening - 40 authors"

From: Marc Tyler Nobleman:

Because you probably thrive on the challenge of getting a sitter on short notice, I hereby invite you to the annual University Club Book Fair this Wednesday. I'm honored to be one of the 40 authors who will sign books; personalized books, I'm told, make thoughtful holiday gifts. (No one's yet asked but I will also sign Kindles/Nooks/iPads.) At least two of my titles will be there, including my latest, which has been seen/heard on outlets including NPR, MTV, and TED (see below). The event is free and open to the public and here's all else you need to know:

The University Club of Washington DC
1135 16th Street, N.W.

Wednesday 11/28
5:30-8 p.m.

Hope to see you there; truly no pressure to buy one of my books. It looks like a classy event. Oh, and come to think of it, it does start early enough that you actually don't need a sitter...

Thank you,
Marc Tyler Nobleman

Why we bid - Cartoons & Cocktails results

101_4643 - Barbara Dale

A few days ago, we linked to Michael Cavna's article on the upcoming Cartoons & Cocktails charity editorial cartoon auction. (Their site is here).

In case anyone was wondering, here's a link to the art I won - all in the silent auctions where I bid first on people I know, then on local cartoonists, then on cartoons I like. I usually make about 50 bids (at a minimum of $25) so I wander around feeling nervous. And don't bid much on the live auction. But you can talk to cartoonists like Matt Wuerker and KAL who were running parts of the show this year. And Lynn Johnston stopped in briefly and signed my Team Cul de Sac book.

The art I won was:

It's Time We Clean House! Artley, Steven G
These People Here For The "Kiss Protest" Are Really Freaking Me Out… Jones, Clay
Norbert: I Never Noticed the Size of His Teeth Before Fett, George
Can You Please Play Ruffles and Flourishes Just for Me, and Does Anyone Know the Words? Ganz, Anne
Mitt's Way On The Highway Dale, Barbara
Wee Pals: What's Your View On Euthanasia, Guys? Turner, Morrie
Don't Blame Me… My Gun Only Bops People On the Schnoz! Jackson, Tim
Free Speech, Free Speech, Free Speech, Reason To Boycott Sutliff, Joe

Joe, Steve, Barbara, Clay and Anne are local to DC/Baltimore.The Fett and Turner pieces are comic strips - I didn't know Fett's work, but it was nice (he was big in Australia) and Morrie Turner's an early African-American cartoonist in the strip world, influenced and helped by Charles Schulz. Tim Jackson's take on a comic book villain was appealing.

Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "Grand Bargain" (NSFW)

From: mike flugennock: (and passed through unedited - MR)

Grand Bargain
http://sinkers.org/stage/?p=1234

You know that when politicians and pundits start throwing the phrase "grand bargain" around on TV, it's time to look the fuck out.

Speaking of which, I'd love to find the Liberal think tank hack who came up with the phrase "grand bargain", so I can beat the shit out of him/her/it. The GOP's transparent, cheesy euphemisms -- like "job creators" -- are bad enough; just imagine that bullshit with an extra added helping of smarm, and you've got the Democrats' transparent, cheesy euphemisms.

Of course, El Presidente will have his sycophantic minions out beating the drum for the Grand Bargain™, trying to convince us that we have a duty to give up our Social Security and Medicare benefits and bend over for austerity -- as if putting up with those zombie clowns during two Presidential campaigns wasn't bad enough. I can just see them down at Busboys'n'Poets now, buttonholing all those Liberals who paid way too much for their burgers and Sam Adams, flocks of so-called Progressives shilling for right-wing policies. Just makes you want to smack the shit out of them, huh?

11/17: Deadpool writer Duggan at 3rd Eye Comics

Saturday 11/17/12
November to Remember Continues!
Meet DEADPOOL Writer GERRY DUGGAN at our DEADPOOL #1 Launch Party

GERRY DUGGAN (DEADPOOL, INFINITE HORIZON, G4's ATTACK OF THE SHOW)

Attend ALL 6 Of Our November to Remember In-Store Signing Events and Get a FREE VIP Pass for 1 Hour Early Admission to Our 12/22 Signing with
BRIAN POSEHN

SIGNING FROM 11AM to 1PM

Hello again, Third Eye Faithful!

This is it, Third Eye Faithful, one of our biggest NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER signings yet! We're bringing the man who's brought us the new DEADPOOL from MARVEL NOW to Maryland.

Gerry Duggan, a fast rising star in the comics industry who wowed us last year with the Image graphic novel INFINITE HORIZON, is flying all the way from California to Third Eye Annapolis this weekend, and we want to show him just how we do things over here on the East Coast at a Third Eye signing. :)

For those of you who may not have read issue #1 yet, the new DEADPOOL is by far, one of the raddest things we've seen, and we are totally stoked about the direction that Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn (who'll be signing here in December) are taking with the character.

We're celebrating our excitement for the new DEADPOOL ongoing with a special launch party this Saturday, where we'll have plenty of DEADPOOL #1 and the DEADPOOL #1 Third Eye variant by Tradd Moore, on sale.

You can bring your DEADPOOL goodies by, and Gerry will sign 'em. Totally free! Haven't gotten DEADPOOL #1 yet? We'll have plenty available to hook you up.

Make sure to line up early, 'cause we've got something uber-cool to give out to the first 25 of you guys in line!

So, Third Eye Faithful, make sure to pop by this Saturday between 11AM and 1PM and meet Gerry!

What's even cooler, is you can get your DEADPOOL signed by Gerry this weekend, then the cover artist Tradd Moore at our LUTHER STRODE signing on 12/1, and then co-writer BRIAN POSEHN, at our 12/22 signing. That's a trifecta!

Read on below for more details on the signing, Gerry's other works, and more!

Get the THIRD EYE COMICS exclusive variant of DEADPOOL #1 this Saturday for only $2.99 & have it signed by writer GERRY DUGGAN!Third Eye Faithful, we're really into the new DEADPOOL monthly series from Marvel, that kicked off as part of their MARVEL NOW line-up. When we first saw shots of this one back a few months ago, we knew that we had to do something special for it. As many of you know, when it comes to books we feel strongly about, we like to really support the heck out of them. And, the new DEADPOOL is definitely one of those kinds of books.

Why're we so jazzed on the series? Well, writing team of Gerry Duggan & Brian Posehn paired up with Tony Moore (the original WALKING DEAD artist) are a dream team for Deadpool. I mean, lets face it, Deadpool is awesome. The character just has that kind of unique appeal and cool factor that will win him fans no matter what. But, with the right creative team? Well, then you're talking must-read material.

And, it truly is. Gerry and Brian bring a sense of humor and wit to Deadpool that we haven't seen this great in quite some time, aside from the totally awesome recent DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE mini-series. Balanced out with the mayhem and ultra-violence that makes the character such a blast to read, this is, in our opinion, the ultimate take on DEADPOOL. Plus, TONY MOORE on art? Holy crap -- his stuff is so good!

Anyways, we worked with Marvel and one of our favorite artists, TRADD MOORE (of STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE fame) to put together this special THIRD EYE exclusive cover of DEADPOOL #1. As you can see, DEADPOOL is having a heck of a time fending off hordes of our little blue 3-eyed guys... but you know, totally amped up by Mr. Moore.

We'll have plenty of copies of both the regular cover and the Third Eye variant available at the signing on Saturday for just $2.99.

This series is also THE perfect place to jump on board with DEADPOOL, especially if you've never followed the comics before, and have been waiting for an opportunity. It's a great, accessible entry point to get into one of the raddest characters in the Marvel library.

Want more information on the event? Click here for the full scoop on Facebook.

Be One Of The First 25 In Line & Receive a Very Special FREE Gift!

As we said last week, there's one thing that Third Eye is known for worldwide, and that's the awesomeness of YOU guys, the Third Eye Faithful. Creators are always totally blown away by your enthusiasm, and trust us, Third Eye Faithful: it's what keeps us going here at Third Eye!

So, we've put together something pretty cool to give to the first 25 of you guys who're in line for our signing on Saturday with Gerry. It's a very cool, exclusive item that's going to be limited to this event -- and trust us: it'll be worth waiting for.

We'll be looking forward to seeing you guys on Saturday! Show up as early as you like!
