05/03/2019

This year May the Fourth, a day to revel in all things Star Wars, coincides with Free Comic Book Day, an annual celebration of comic books! Free Comic Book Day at Fantom Comics news

Fantom on Dupont Circle reached out to me today with a couple of pieces of news:

WE'VE GOT A SURPRISE FOR YOU! Looks like we're gonna be able to get our AOC Exclusive Retailer Variant by Gene Ha in time for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!

We have gone in with Beyond Comics and Third Eye to get what is Fantom's very first exclusive retailer variant cover (art by Gene Ha) of the Alexandria Ocasio Cortez comic that is coming out from Devil's Due next Wednesday, but we have permission to sell these variants in advance of the street date. Here's a link to a post on our FB page with the image. Remember that they are $10 each in person, and will cost more to ship. Currently we only plan to ship domestic.

We've been in touch with Georgia Higley from the Library of Congress about providing them with a copy of the Free Comic Book Day books for the 3rd year in a row, since it's such a challenge for the LOC to get the FCBD books so they have a complete collection.

The Post reviews UglyDolls

UglyDolls — yes, those goofy-looking misfit toys — are in a movie. And it's actually kind of charming. [in print as Movie inspired by plush toys delivers a beautiful message]

Matt Davies received his second Herblock award last night, and Jake Tapper spoke at the presentation ceremony. Both were very entertaining. Bruce Guthrie has his photos online:
