Feb 9: Charity event and Cody the Cavelier at Game On Comics!

 This Saturday! Feb. 9th!
"SHARE THE COMICS LOVE" WITH GAME ON COMICS! 
 
 
This Saturday, from 11am to 3pm at GAME ON COMICS, we will take donations of comics and money to split between St Jude's Children's Hospital and soldiers deployed overseas.  We will also have signed books and art from creators like Matt Fraction, Brian Bendis, Gabriel Hardman and more for you to win through auctions and raffles.  All monies collected through raffles and auctions, and in kind donations will be split between St Jude's and the Red Cross.

CODY THE CAVALIER creator Jamie Cosley will be here in the shop signing copies of his wonderful all ages books, and doing sketches and more for everyone, so make sure to bring your kids to say HI! and check out CODY the CAVALIER!

Back issues will be $2 for folks wanting to donate comics that don't have any. Just tell us at the register how many back issues you want to donate, and give a copy of your receipt to the folks collecting comics, and we'll send them out!

Local comics historian Warren Bernard (friend of ComicsDC, SPX grand poobah) volunteers at the Library of Congress' prints and photos division, identifying editorial cartoons and topics for them, but he snuck over to the building next door to research and write an article on Fredric Wertham's anti-comics crusade for the Comics Journal #302. Warren's kindly convinced the journal to put his research material online.

There's a link to watch the hour-long literary death match of which Cavna says, "The Cartoon Death Match pitted such political cartoonists as [Mike Peters,] Mark Fiore, Jen Sorensen and Keith Knight in spontaneous drills at the drawing board — with comics/publishing figures Dean Haspiel, The Beat's Heidi MacDonald and The Post's Gene Weingarten serving as judges. The scene played like a mix of great anecdote-sharing and quick wits between bouts between world-class Pictionary artists."  I was there, and enjoyed it a lot.
