Ron Wimberly's LAAB newspaper needs funding

It's always tough to write emails like this, but we have to be honest. LAAB Magazine might not make it. We're barely above halfway funded with just three days to go. Without a lot of help, we're not going to get there, and we won't be able to continue on with this magazine in the future. We're incredibly proud of the issues of LAAB that we've put together. We've published the work of more than sixty artists and authors over course of our four installments. We think these newspapers are something special. If you do too, or if you're curious about what we're up to with this project, now might be your last chance to get behind it.

Ultimately we might need to be honest with ourselves: there may just not be enough of an audience to continue this project. This might be the end of the road.   A magazine like this is about the smallest stakes imaginable. When the world is engulfed by war and exploitation and climate disaster, independent art newspapers fall low on everyone's list of priorities. But we care about this magazine and this community, and we don't want to let either one go. We believe in LAAB as a platform for the radical imagination. LAAB is a space for human expression, curiosity, creativity. It doesn't change anything but it means something.

So if you have the capacity, we're asking for your help. Either by pledging directly, or spreading the word. Whether pledging, posting, sharing, or best of all: tell your friends directly about the project. Text them, email them, call them, knock on their door. The personal touch has always worked better than anything mediated by the platforms trying to drain all the creative production out of us.
