Only 2 cartoonists scheduled for National Book Festival? UPDATED

KidLit: Kat Fajardo, and Johnnie Christmas?

Check this list and send me corrections please.

Randy Tischler keeps track of pros for the Baltimore Comic Con and has updated me with this list, although they are all writers who have also (not primarily) worked in comics:

Holly Black (assuming it's the same) has written for DC, BOOM! Studios, and Graphix.

Tochi Onyebuchii wrote for Marvel and Activision Publishing Inc.

Kwame Alexander has writing credits at Houghton Mifflin Company and Clarion Books but that could be adaptations of his books. Not positive...

Mac Barnett wrote for Katherine Tegen Books (HarperCollins).

David Bowles has written for Cinco Puntos Press and Tu Books.

Johnnie Christmas has done writing and art for Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Valiant, Devil's Due/1First, Black Mask Studios, comiXology Originals, and HarperAlley.

Lev Grossman has written for BOOM! Studios.

Tui T. Sullivan wrote for Graphix (Scholastic).

Samira Ahmed wrote for Marvel.

Darcie Little Badger wrote for Marvel, DC, BOOM! Studios, A!H Comics, and Humanoids.

E. Lockhart wrote for DC.

Jason Reynolds wrote for Marvel and Atheneum/Caitlyn Dlouhy Books.

Sabaa Tahir wrote for BOOM! Studios.

ComicsDC on the road - Tall Man of Knoxville, TN

I was visiting in Knoxville and stopped into a Tall Man Toys & Comics, a local shop near the Museum of Art. Putting the toys before comics in their name is accurate, as you can see from these photos, but they had a decent selection of new comics, with a buy 3, get 1 free discount, and the same graphic novel discount too, as well as good-sized back issue collection. The staff was quite nice, even when I left without buying anything, after I asked if they had anything produced locally (no). This is close to the University of Tennessee and the Worlds Fair Park, so I guess those two groups provide their customer base.

The Knoxville Museum of Art had an exhibit by woman artists with a superhero link as seen below. The museum is definitely a local one with no Western old masters, but there was a good glass exhibit, an excellent show by woman artist's and another good one of local artists and their history.

Library of Congress announces Jefferson building redesign

07/18/2022

Plans for a new renovation to the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building, designed to offer more members of the public access to the Library's inspiring architecture and comprehensive collections, include an oculus; a circular glass window that will allow visitors to look up to the dome from the orientation center below the Main Reading Room, where visitors will begin their Library journey.

I'm trying to figure out what this will displace - rare book storage/ conference rooms maybe?

It is being released in a deluxe hardcover edition that features a brand-new cover, exclusive art and sketches, a forward by ND Stevenson (Lumberjanes, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and an afterward by creator Maia Kobabe. Started as a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual, Gender Queer is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity—what it means and how to think about it—for advocates, friends, and humans everywhere.

Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "Bone Deep"

from DC's anarchist cartoonist -

"Bone Deep"
http://sinkers.org/stage/?p=3484

"You don't need to be a Jew to be a Zionist," said Biden in his
opening remarks. "The connection between the Israeli and American
people is bone deep... I am proud to say that US relations with Israel
are deeper and stronger than they have ever been."
—Al Jazeera, reporting on 07.13.2022

"Bone deep"? ...as opposed to the connection between the Ukrainian and
American people, which is more "skin deep", I'm guessing...?

Yeah, the sonofabitch said our connection to filthy, murdering Israel
is "bone deep".
He's actually more or less right, y'know.
