Abadzis's 'Laika' graphic novel gets new endings for Big Planet Comics

Big Planet Comics says "To help us celebrate our 25th anniversary, Nick Abadzis is going to be posting alternative endings to Big-Planet-favorite graphic novel Laika on our web page!"

Wow, this is totally cool, if ahistorical. Abadzis has a note about why he's doing this, under the first imaginary happy ending for the Russian space dog.

And Big Planet has a podcast? Since June? Who knew?

Sept 29: Nick Abadzis on Laika at Air and Space

Scott Rosenberg's got an interview with British cartoonist Nick Abadzis on his new book about the Soviet space dog. See "Animal Attraction: 'Laika' tells the story of a four-legged pawn of Cold War politics," Express (September 27, 2007): E7.

Abadzis will be speaking at the Air and Space Museum on Saturday at 12:45 and 2:30 pm, and signing his book too, I'm sure. I'll probably hit that after the National Book Festival's crowds drive me mad.

Oct 11: Wagner and Abadzis comic signings

Big Planet owner Joel Pollack was complaining today that this blog's been too academic lately so I challenged him to give me some news. Here it is:

Matt Wagner will be at a 25th Anniversary of Grendel signing at Big Planet Bethesda on October 11, probably from 5-7 pm.

Nick Abadzis will be signing his new book, Laika, on the Russian space dog at Big Planet College Park on the same day. He'll also be making two appearances at the Air & Space Museum at some point.
