Cavna on new Judge Parker artist

Michael's been busy this week...

THIS JUST IN: 'Judge Parker' names its new artist

I like the new artists work, but it's a lot more cartoony than Baretto's.

Eduardo Barreto's illness leaves Judge Parker less lovely

Alan Gardner had a more hopeful story up at Daily Cartoonist, but Michael Cavna's Comic Riffs post says Eduardo Barreto's illness is meningitis and he'll be leaving the strip, which definitely leaves Judge Parker less lovely. It's one of the best looking action strips out there now, although Paul Ryan on the Phantom and Graham Nolan on Rex Morgan, MD do excellent work -- and those strips aren't in the Post.

Judge Parker returns to Post, Cul de Sac joins KC Star and Twitterverse

Michael Cavna of the Post's Comic Riffs blog naturally had the story first, but I think there's a few unattributed quotes in "Here Comes the Judge: Reader Protests Bring Back Comic Strip," By Harry Jaffe, Washingtonian's Capital Comment Blog Friday, April 17, 2009. Michael also noted that the Post's ombudsman felt compelled to address the Judge Parker issue tomorrow.

Also Cul de Sac has been picked up by the Kansas City Star. Yay, Richard! Ohh, and Richard's Tweeting. Boo, Richard!

Post dropping comics

Mike Cavna's breaking the story that his colleagues are dropping Pooch Cafe, Zippy, Judge Parker, Piranha Club and Little Dog Lost as of March 30th. Bah.

I really like Judge Parker and Pooch Cafe, Zippy and Piranha Club (Bo Grace is local by the way) both have their appeal. Little Dog Lost didn't catch on with me. No notice as to why except that Dilbert is moving back from the Business section, but I'll bet they're putting in another Soduku type game since the NY Times just added one.
