Dear Liberal Amerika: SHUT the HELL UP about the 2024 election. Just
shut the goddamn hell up RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. Your party supported
fascism and genocide even though it meant defeat, and now they're
collaborating with fascists every chance they get. Hell, they just
nominated a goddamn Nazi-tattooed ex-Blackwater merc and Abu Ghraib
prison guard to the Senate.

So, don't talk to me about the 2024 election, about my refusal to vote
since 2004, about my utter lack of respect or faith in Democracy™ or any
other American institution. Just SHUT THE HELL UP, Liberal Amerika.

New NYC civics comic

Know Your Rights Comic

This collection includes the Know Your Rights comic in English and Spanish, with other languages forthcoming. In addition, there is a poster, a lesson plan in the form of google slides, and a resource guide to help support instruction using this comic.

Two sets of posters:

For this year's Civics Week theme, the Department of Social Studies and Civics is acknowledging the celebration of America's 250th anniversary. This year's theme, Voices Then, Voices Now, invites young people to draw inspiration from the many voices throughout United States history that have made our democracy possible. During Civics Week and throughout the year, we encourage students to consider the importance of their voice in bringing democracy into the next 250 years! Here you will find a collection of the posters created by the Civics for All Comics group in collaboration with several artists connected to this year's theme.

This collection of posters designed by artists for the Civics for All Comics Group highlight the 2024 theme of Civics Week, "Democracy Needs You!" The posters feature various characters from the Civics for All Comics Group universe.

WaPo letter comparing AI and comic book censorship

Holy moral panic, Batman [letter re: AI and comic book censorship]

Gaspare Jucan Sicignano, Naples
Washington Post (June 6 2026): A16.

There are practical problems with restricting minors’ access to social media platforms. But there is also a historical parallel worth considering.

In 1950s America, comic books became the focus of a national moral panic. Critics claimed they were corrupting children, promoting violence and fueling juvenile delinquency. Political pressure eventually produced the Comics Code Authority, a censorship regime that revealed far more about adult anxieties than about comic books.

Social media risks becoming the latest scapegoat.

This is not to deny the dangers of algorithm-driven platforms, especially for adolescents. Artificial intelligence increasingly powers recommendation systems designed to capture attention. But banning teenagers from social media will not prepare them for a future in which digital systems influence nearly every aspect of life.

History suggests that societies rarely resolve cultural anxiety simply by prohibiting the dominant medium of a generation. Rather than trying to shield young people from digital reality, democratic societies should focus on teaching them how to navigate it responsibly.

Kick off summer with author Zach Weinersmith. Sawyer Lee and the Quest to Just Stay Home is the first book in an cartoon-illustrated middle-grade duology starring a ferociously un-adventurous kid who is dragged into the hilarious adventures of his friends and family.

Zach Weinersmith is the Hugo Award–winning, Eisner Award–nominated author of the graphic novel Bea Wolf as well as the creator of the webcomic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. He co-authored the New York Times bestselling pop-sci books Soonish and A City on Mars, and illustrated the New York Times–bestselling graphic novel Open Borders. He once took third place in the 1989 junior seed-spitting competition of the Luling Watermelon Thump. Today, he lives somewhere in Virginia with his wife, two kids, five goats, two sheep, three dogs, and approximately two cats.
