PR: Big changes in College Park

From: Big Planet Comics
Date: Tue, May 10, 2022

Hey Big Planeteers!

We know a lot of you shop at all our locations, so we wanted to let you know that we're going to be passing the torch of comics in College Park to our friends at Third Eye Comics and their new Third Eye College Park location this July!

Thank you all so much for 15 years of incredible support at that store. We were honored to take over the original College Park comic store of Closet of Comics/Liberty Books from Jim, and we wanted to make sure a great comic book store remained in College Park for you through Third Eye Comics.

If you haven't shopped with our friends at Third Eye Comics yet, you might have seen them set up at some cons, too. You can check out their flagship store in Annapolis MD if you want to be reassured that they have great stores and will treat comic fans right.

Big Planet Comics of College Park will be open, operating, and serving up weekly new comics as we have been right up until Wednesday 6/29/22, and then we'll be closing the doors of our location at 7315 Baltimore Ave.

And, then: on Saturday 7/2/22, Third Eye Comics will be taking over and opening less than 5 minutes from our current location up Baltimore Ave/Route 1, at 4744 Cherry Hill Rd in the College Park Marketplace Shopping Center (which is home to Game Kastle, Starbucks, Shopper's Food Warehouse & Best Buy, right off the Beltway).

We'd imagine you'll probably see a familiar face or two at the new Third Eye store too!

All our regular subs in College Park will transition right over to Third Eye Comics at that point, so they're all set. For any questions about the upcoming new Third Eye College Park store, there's a dedicated FAQ posted at https://thirdeyecomics.com/pages/college-park and of course, you can email Third Eye Steve himself at steve@thirdeyecomics.com

As for us, Big Planet fans, we are so thankful for your support of all our stores, and we just want to assure you: this is a positive change for us, and the store itself has been in great shape. We have just reached a point where we're looking to explore new paths, and this was the right time to pass the torch to a great company like Third Eye who we knew would continue the long-standing tradition that College Park has for having a great comic book store.

Sincerely,
Peter Casazza & Jared Smith

Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "Why The Fediverse Isn't All That"

As DC's anarchist cartoonist Mike Flugennock explains why he's been shut down on Mastodon sm. So he probably is updating that sigline...

"The Mastodon In The Room: Why The Fediverse Isn't All That"

They're non-binary, declare their pronouns, wave their trans flags
high, wear their revolutionary cred on their sleeves — and they're
ready to stomp down dissent at a moment's notice, and be "woke" as a
motherfucker while they do it.

"Don't wanna be an American Idiot,
one nation, controlled by the media —
Information Age of hysteria
is calling out to Idiot America!"
— Green Day

In January of 2018, I found myself rooting around for alternative
social media spaces shortly after receiving this note full of
thinly-veiled threats from Twitter regarding my following and
retweeting "Russian-influenced" accounts. All the cool kids got one.

That spring, after taking a quick peek at Gab (and a long, hot shower
afterwards), I was turned on to Mastodon by a fellow "Russian dupe" on
Twitter. It was during that first wave of Left voices and publications
being bounced off of Twitter for "Russian influence" — i.e.
contradicting the official US media party line. Of course, I got my
ass over there pronto and set up a presence. I didn't mind that the
traffic was a bit thin; it was basically what Twitter would've been
without the trolls, bots, shills, spammers and Nazis — like, detoxed
Twitter...

Ann Telnaes finalist for 2022 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning (CORRECTED)

My apologies - I misread this statement by the Post.

Washington Post Editorial Cartoonist Ann Telnaes was recognized in the category of Illustrated Reporting and Commentary for her political cartoons which castigate the powerful, highlight the absurdity of modern politics and champion the powerless. Telnaes' drawings get to the heart of the issues confronting the world today and capture fundamental truths, laying bare the worst- and the best- of us.
