Jeff Smith
Bone #1 by Jeff Smith

Jeff Smith is the writer and artist of comics and graphic novels like Bone, RASL, Tuki, Thorn, and SHAZAM: The Monster Society of Evil. Both Bone and RASL were self-published and are New York Times Bestsellers. Bone began the current YA Graphic Novel explosion by launching Scholastic Books' Graphix imprint and has won 48 national and international awards, including 10 Eisner Awards and 11 Harvey Awards and has been published around the world in 33 countries. RASL won an Eisner for Best Graphic Novel. CXC, the Columbus comics festival co-founded by Jeff, his wife Vijaya, and Lucy Caswell, celebrated its 10th year in 2024. Jeff continues to work on Deluxe Library Editions of his catalog, with Bone Part Two: Phoney Strikes Back, shipping Spring 2026.

Bone 3D Book and Slipcase BACK

Cartoon Books announces BONE Deluxe Edition Part One: The Valley, an oversized compilation volume that reprints the first two BONE graphic novels and is filled with bonus extras like photos, early scripts, drawings, articles and reviews, revealing the story behind the making of BONE and Cartoon Books.

This is the second book in the Cartoon Books Deluxe Edition series. The first was launched last year with Smith's THORN: The Complete Proto- BONE College Strips 1982 to 1986, collected in its entirety for the first time. The rest of the Cartoon Books library, including RASL and TUKI, will be released in Deluxe Editions in subsequent years.

The Baltimore Comic-Con will be Jeff's only 2025 show appearance outside of his home state of Ohio.

"Like all kids young and old, I love Bone!" said Marc Nathan, show promoter for the Baltimore Comic-Con. "All of Jeff's work is spectacular, but Bone holds a special place in my heart, as does Jeff. We are so excited that he is able to join us for this year's event, and people will want to make sure they get a chance to catch Jeff at this year's Baltimore Comic-Con!"

Indie Comics will fill your heart

The convention seasons begins!

Apr 28

This weekend I attended my first convention of this year's comic con season. Four State Comic Con in Hagerstown, Maryland. It was a pleasant, leisurely start to the front facing part of this job, which can be challenging for a introvert-leaning dude like me.

This show as unique for me though. This is the first time I attended a show with my new creator-owned comic on my table. Something I haven't done in a very, very long time.

Normally folks come to me for signed Batman, Deadpool, etc. They kindly support my work, but the work I do for clients.

This time out, I had some Hysteria: One Man Gang comics with me (made possible thanks to the wonderful folks who backed the Kickstarter!) It made for a new feeling for me, a strange nervousness about "pitching" my book to folks when they're expecting a new Batman comic from me.

Some times people would give me a funny look. I subtle disbelief that I'm doing this instead of, you know… more mainstream comics.

Then I let go and talk about the comic. I catch myself sounding… proud?…maybe?

Hysteria was how I started my career. It's the comic I self published at the birth of this comics life, the book I wanted to draw my entire career. A plan that changed as I was fortunate enough to get dream gig after dream gig. But Hysteria never left my mind.
