Next August: Risucon (formerly MonkeyCon) PR

I wanted to give you some news about MonkeyCon.

First, did you see the fantastic news coverage we got from mymcm (Montgomery County Media) here: https://www.mymcmedia.org/gaithersburgs-monkeycon-brings-out-comic-fun/

Second, we changed the name. We are now RisuCon. Risu means squirrel in Japanese and there are a lot of squirrels in Maryland.
Third, we had a great event at the Gaithersburg community center, but we're taking next year's event to a new level. Yes, we will have a 2-day event at a hotel and conference center in Rockville.

So, what are the details?
RisuCon will be the weekend of August 17 & 18, 2024. The new website is RisuCon.com

We'll be in the lower level of the fabulous Montgomery County Conference Center, part of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center at 5701 Marinelli Road in Rockville, MD.

This facility is on the corner of Rockville Pike where the North Bethesda Metro station is. People can take the metro to the convention and walk 100 feet into the hotel. We will also have free parking both days in the convention center's adjacent parking garage.

RisuCon will host the first ever DISCOS, a cosplay dance party Saturday night. We're going to host so many panels and contests that you cannot possibly do it all in one day.

The hotel has a special room rate of $145. That reservation page is https://book.passkey.com/event/50736977/owner/2644099/home
You don't need to stay in the hotel if you don't want to, but if you're making several cosplay changes, it is a good idea.

Admission will be the following:
Full Weekend (both days) $50
Saturday only (includes Saturday night activities) $35
Sunday only $25
Full VIP Weekend (includes a t-shirt and other items/privileges) $85

Here is the URL to purchase tickets: https://app.showslinger.com/e1/171/risucon
Here is the convention URL : www.RisuCon.com

Have a great holiday season and we hope to see you next year at RisuCon.

Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "Know Your Enemy"

From DC's anarchist cartoonist.

"Know Your Enemy"
http://sinkers.org/stage/?p=3747

So, this week, about two and a half months into this horror, it
finally dawned on Genocide Joe and the New York Times that
relentlessly bombing the ever-lovin' piss out of a practically
defenseless civilian population which is at least half children in a
genocidal campaign of ethnic cleansing might cause you some PR issues
down the road...

About this same time, the Washington Post was clutching its pearls
over the staggering amount of "dumb bombs" being used to pummel
civilians' homes into a flaming hellscape, as if using more precisely
guided munitions might make the genocide more palatable to Mr. and
Mrs. Amerika. Dumb bombs, dumb policy, dumb leadership, dumb people
and a dumb nation. Dumb all over, and ugly on the side.

Meanwhile, Jews all over the place are getting on the right side of
history and remembering the value of resistance, and Hamas is Numero
Uno in Gaza (I wonder why?). Despite the shrieking, blustering,
threatening, banning and blacklisting, this time around they can't
stop the world from talking about Palestine and acting on it.

What's that sound, getting louder? Time's up.
