From a Maryland high school senior, we get this review "Coheed and Cambria singer should stick to what he knows" BY BEN JENNINGS, Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star 6/19/2008 which opens:
The band Coheed and Cambria has received good reviews, with its soothing alto vocals and progressive rock sound. But maybe it should stick to the music side of its business.
The lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band, Claudio Sanchez, opened a new front in the comic-book business when he released a series of songs in tandem with a graphic-novel companion, both called "The Amory Wars: The Second Stage Turbine Blade.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that some jaded critic would suggest Claudio Sanchez stick to one thing. Make Coheed and Cambria either a band...or a book. But look closer and listen closer. Claudio has woven a marvelous tapestry of sci-fi and prog rock who's lyrics mirror the namesake's struggles in love, family, right and wrong...good and evil. What would be page trapped fiction is given life through the cryptic lyrics of the songs. Ground is being broken here with each note, with each page turned until the music and the story are one in the same. Judge for it is your right...but look closer and listen carefully. Someone finally changed the rules.
Thanks for the comment - I haven't run across their work yet, but I like your take on it. I'm not sure a high school reviewer can be jaded, but otoh, that might be the MOST jaded...
