Tonight! Stuart Gibbs for “Evil Spy School: the Graphic Novel” at Peoples Book in Takoma Park

Stuart Gibbs for "Evil Spy School: the Graphic Novel"

March 6 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The third book in the New York Times bestselling Spy School series continues in graphic novel form as superspy kid Ben Ripley is recruited to the dark side, as an undercover agent at SPYDER's evil spy school. During a spy school game of Capture the Flag, twelve-year-old Ben Ripley accidentally shoots a live mortar into the principal's office—and immediately gets himself expelled. Not long after going back to the boring real world, Ben gets an offer to join evil crime organization SPYDER. And he accepts. Ben can tell he's a key part of their sinister plan, but he's not quite sure what the plan is. Can Ben figure out what SPYDER is up to—and get word to the good guys without getting caught—before it's too late? Since its launch in 2015, the Spy School series has hit the New York Times bestseller list thirteen times, and the series in total has now sold over three million copies across all formats.

Stuart Gibbs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Charlie Thorne series, FunJungle series, Moon Base Alpha series, Once Upon a Tim series, and Spy School series. He has written screenplays, worked on a whole bunch of animated films, developed TV shows, been a newspaper columnist, and researched capybaras (the world's largest rodents). Stuart lives with his family in Los Angeles. You can learn more about what he's up to at StuartGibbs.com.
This event is free for anyone who wants to attend! However, the publisher requests that if you would like any books signed by the author, you must have or purchase his newest titles ("Evil Spy School: The Graphic Novel").

This is an in-person event. Seated capacity at People's Book is 50 patrons. Standing room is an option. All events are first come first serve seating. Accessible seating is always available.

Aviation Training Sense Pamphlets at Navy Yard

Aviation Training Sense Pamphlets

Naval History and Heritage Command

[note that they have the original artwork for Shoot Seat Sense (1951)]

In early 1943, the U. S. Navy Bureau of Aeronautics Training Division began publishing information pamphlets covering "common sense" topics that naval aviators needed to learn during their training.  Following reorganization in December 1943, the Aviation Training Division became part of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. The pamphlets, which were published through the end of the 1950s, were illustrated by Robert C. Osborn, a naval officer who is known for creating the characters "Dilbert Groundloop" and "Grampaw Pettibone."

The Navy Archives has more than fifty "Sense" pamphlets in collection AR/577 Aviation Periodicals.

Please Note: Only select pages from a very small number of pamphlets have been scanned and made available here.  Unless otherwise stated, the complete texts have not been scanned.  Due to budget and staffing constraints, the Navy Archives does not have any current plans to digitize the remainder of these texts or any of the other pamphlets in this collection.

The texts reproduced here are in the public domain.  However, credit must be given in all instances of use or reproduction.
