Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "Night Of The Living #StandWithUkraine"

From DC's anarchist cartoonist -

"Night Of The Living #StandWithUkraine"
sinkers.org/stage/?p=3458

While y'all were hanging your Ukrainian flags out in front of your
houses and putting little Ukrainian flags in your Facebook profile
fotos and screaming about the dirty Rooskies and chewing rags over
those poor little old Ukrainian ladies mixing Molotovs in their
basements, this is what happened to your unemployment benefits
extension and your rent relief and your eviction moratorium and your
Covid "stimulus" and your healthcare.

Inspired by the top two stories in the Washington Post of May 20,
above the fold like a shot and a chaser: we're pissing your healthcare
away on a NATO/US proxy war in the Ukraine, and forget about baby
formula anytime soon. Love that reference to "firm public support" in
the Ukraine Care Package story. Bwah hah, "public support"... what do
you mean "we", white man?

ABOUT THE BOOK

From Eisner-Award nominated writer Marika McCoola and debut artist Aatmaja Pandya, an emotional coming-of-age graphic novel for fans of Bloom and Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me.

Right before Jade is about to leave for a summer art intensive, her best friend, Phoebe, attempts suicide. How is Jade supposed to focus on herself right now?

But at the Art Farm, Jade has artistic opportunities she's been waiting for her whole life. And as she gets to know her classmates, she begins to fall for whimsical, upbeat, comfortable-in-her-own-skin Mary. Jade pours herself into making ceramic monsters that vent her stress and insecurities, but when she puts her creatures in the kiln, something unreal happens: they come to life. And they're taking a stand: if Jade won't confront her problems, her problems are going to confront her, including the scariest of them all—if Jade grows, prospers, and even falls in love this summer, is she leaving Phoebe behind?

Politics and Prose is delighted to partner with the Takoma Park Maryland Library for an exciting program with children's book author Minh Lê.

The Blur by Minh Le, illustrated by Dan Santat, is both a superhero origin story and a heartstring-tugging tribute to the velocity of childhood.   From the moment "The Blur" is born she demonstrates tongue-in-cheek superpowers – a supersonic voice, elastic limbs and ultra-magnetic abilities.  One day she takes her first step and from that day forward she is constantly on the move.  The years speed by and before her parents know it, she appears in a cap and gown. Parents will relate to the poignant story while children will enjoy the superhero jokes and bright, animated illustrations.

Minh Lê is a national early childhood policy expert and the author of the picture books Drawn Together and Let Me Finish!  He has written for the New York Times, the Horn Book, and the Huffington PostGreen Lantern Legacy is his first graphic novel. A first-generation Vietnamese American, he went to Dartmouth College and has a master's in education from Harvard University. Outside of spending time with his beautiful wife and sons in their San Diego (CA) home, Minh's favorite place to be is in the middle of a good book.

In 2014, Maia Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, thought that a comic of reading statistics would be the last autobiographical comic e would ever write. At the time, it was the only thing e felt comfortable with strangers knowing about em. Now, Gender Queer is here. Maia's intensely cathartic autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the mortification and confusion of adolescent crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, bonding with friends over erotic gay fanfiction, and facing the trauma and fundamental violation of pap smears.

Maia Kobabe is a nonbinary, queer author and illustrator from the Bay Area, California. Eir first full length book, GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR, was published in May 2019. Maia's short comics have been published by The Nib and in many anthologies including THE SECRET LOVES OF GEEKS, FASTER THAN LIGHT Y'ALL, GOTHIC TALES OF HAUNTED LOVE, SHOUT OUT, ADVANCED DEATH SAVES and BE GAY, DO COMICS. Before setting out to work freelance full-time, e worked for over ten years in libraries. Eir work is heavily influenced by fairy tales, homesickness, and the search for identity.
