'Street Sense' comics cover

The latest issue of Street Sense, a biweekly newspaper to raise awareness of homeless issues in D.C., has a comics front page. I wasn't able to find a credit for it, though. It also has a few cartoons inside, some spot illustrations and the comic strip Barney & Clyde by Gene Weingarten, Dan Weingarten and David Clark.

THE LAST UNICORN

In person: author Peter S. Beagle at the August 12 show!

Based on Peter S. Beagle's beloved book, this sophisticated fairy tale was produced by animation innovators Rankin Bass (RUDOLPH, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, 1977's THE HOBBIT). Fearing she's the last of her kind, unicorn Amalthea (voiced by Mia Farrow) travels to the realm of King Haggard (Christopher Lee) in hopes of finding her lost brethren. But after being transformed into a beautiful young woman by her friend, the bumbling wizard Schmendrick (Alan Arkin), Amalthea catches the eye of the king's son, Prince Lir (Jeff Bridges). Music by soft rock greats America!

DIR/PROD Jules Bass, Arthur Rankin, Jr.; SCR Peter S. Beagle, from his novel. US/UK/Japan/Germany, 1982, color, 92 min, 35mm. RATED G

Strips in the Post

A few notes about the Post's comic strips...

This week, Patrick McDonnell in Mutts has been drawing Marvel Comics characters being hit by nuts.

Zits breaks the fourth wall today by having the dad from Baby Blues appear. Both strips are written by Jerry Scott.

And has anyone else noticed the massive amounts of reprints that have been running this year in Get Fuzzy? This week has been from 2011, but reruns have been a constant this year.

Cover of Gordon Harris' upcoming comic

Gordon Harris has a new comic, The Secret Origin of the Dust Elves, coming out soon, and he'd like your help in selecting the cover design. Cast your vote.

The first of these movies was based on Warren Ellis and Culley Hammer's graphic novel. I don't imagine they have anything to do with this sequel.
