RFK and Herblock submission dates announced

Lifted directly from DD Degg and the Daily Cartoonist, shamelessly.

2024 Editoon Awards Calls for Submission

Attention Editorial Cartoonists! It's time to start sorting your best of 2023 for the 2024 award season.

Yesterday the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization sent out a notice that they are now open to receive submissions for the new cycle – editorial cartoons published in 2023. The deadline is January 12, 2024.

The Herb Block Foundation, in a release dated today, sent out the rules for their 2024 Herblock Award. The Herblock Deadline: February 1st, 2024.

The Weinersmith's new Mars book reviewed

Chast review coming to NPR books later this week

Somebody remind me.

We're also looking forward to your thoughts on Roz Chast's latest graphic novel I Must Be Dreaming. Book critic Heller McAlpin says: "Talk about a dream, kill a conversation." But she says that "even though cartoonist Roz Chast acknowledges that 'Only shrinks are interested, and maybe not even them,' she has written an entire book about dreams. And -- no surprise -- it's delightful. She pulls it off because she's Roz Chast."

We hope you'll come read their full reviews this week here. https://www.npr.org/books/

The Chameleon

by Jenny Rachel Weiner
Directed by Ellie Heyman

OCTOBER 11 – NOVEMBER 5, 2023

Nothing says Jewish Christmas more than Chinese takeout. The food tastes even better this year for actor Riz Golden-Kruger and her family – Riz finally got her big break, the starring role in a new superhero franchise, The Chameleon. But when news leaks that could threaten to ruin Riz's career, she must decide to hide or fight for what's right. Ignited by the fast-paced frenzy of social media, the play rampages through questions of identity, representation, and the complications of assimilation. The Chameleon is an outrageous, laugh-out-loud intergenerational world premiere.

Dec 2: RESCHEDULED: Meet Scott Braden and Marty Grosser

It's Brilliant!

Brilliant Enterprises double signing!

Frederick Location Only

Due to unfortunate printing delays, this event has been rescheduled to December 2nd

Come and meet creators Scott Braden and Marty Grosser - Creators of Kent Menace and GunHand

Saturday December 2nd!

11 AM - 4 PM

Picking up roughly 100 years after Mary Shelley's legendary novel of science gone awry, the immortal monster created by Victor Frankenstein finds himself transported from the icy waters of the North to New York, circa 1888. Awakening in the hold of a steamship, the monster is attacked and loses his right arm at the elbow to a crewman's axe. The monster flees into the sprawling city, where chance — and dark magicks — will ultimately give the monster the upper hand: A magical arm that will fight him at every turn and drag him across America on a wild and weird journey filled with action, drama, humor, and horror! And 3,000 miles away, in the Golden State, the arm's masters call its owner home, unaware of the change in ownership that has occurred. The GunHAND is the first original comics series created by PREVIEWS Editor Marty Grosser, masterfully illustrated by Matthew Plog, artist of Brilliant Enterprise's Kent Menace!

He is known by many names: "MYSTERIOUS MARINER," "SUPERNATURAL SAILOR," "WEIRD HERO." He is KENT MENACE, sailor of the ghostly PANGEAN SEA and comic book hero turned reality's champion. And, from modern day GREECE to a darkly futuristic LONDON TOWN, he is facing the strange powers of the cybernetic sleuth of the future, JON SHERLOK – the TECHNOFREAK . Or is he? Could it be the "SINISTER SILVER-AGER," a.k.a., THE COMIC-BOOKER, who is twisting reality – and these dark heroes' very lives -- at his whim? Featuring an epic story by John Charles, script by creators Charles and Scott Braden, and amazing art by master illustrator Frank Fosco, the comic also comes with scripts, process art, among other bonus material. What else is there to say but: HUZZAH!

Hailing originally from Sacramento California, Marty Grosser has called the comics industry home since 1981, working in comics retailing, distribution, marketing, and publishing. He is currently on his 35th year as Editor of Diamond Comic Distributor's  PREVIEWS  catalog — that's 420 issues as of September 2023! More recently, he has begun to write prose tales and comic stories in the world of Scott Braden and Mike Malbrough's supernatural sailor, KENT MENACE, to which he also serves as Editor-in-Chief. In addition to his behind-the-scenes work on KENT MENACE, he is also the writer of his first original series, THE GUNHAND, coming from Brilliant Enterprise LLC in October 2023.

"Brilliant really began as a dream I had with my old friend, JEFF DILLON, in the form of Brilliant Entertainment. In fact, I published my original 16-page, 200-count preview edition under that banner. Well, then for two issues we were published by another company. But, for all the work I was doing creating and marketing the books, I was told they really weren't hitting the mark. I had a hard time believing that, so, with a very cool logo designed by the great Mark Wheatley, I decided that if I am going to work this hard at it, it is up to me to make it successful. Nobody else."
