John Romita Sr. by Bruce Guthrie

John Romita Sr passed last week.   I was going through my pics of him, mostly from Baltimore Comic Con, and ran into this one from the Harveys back in 2006.  (The Harveys were at BCC until 2017.) George Perez (left) passed in 2022.  Jerry Robinson (center) passed in 2012.  And now JR Sr.

I started going back to comic book conventions 20 years ago because I realized the folks I had grown up on were dying off and I wanted a chance to see some of them.  I'm glad I did.  I've got to say, many of them lived really long lives which was great for all of us.

Carolyn Belefski's newest Kickstarter jewelry project

I've backed all of these, and I look good.

We're now raising funds to produce limited edition hard enamel pins with a modern original illustrated Firefly, Lightning Bug, Glowworm design. The pins will be 30mm tall and production effects include matte gold plating with etching on the base of the lightbulb with translucent enamel for the wings. Each pin will be fixed with a mustard rubber clutch and comes with a backing card made from real oak wood (similar to Cicada). The design portrays a light bulb shape of the body that will feature glow-in-the-dark enamel.

Hope you can back the project -- pins are $11 each (plus shipping). Click on the link to learn more and pledge: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/carolynbelefski/firefly-lightning-bug-enamel-pin

We also have optional add-ons from past pin and bandana projects. Thanks in advance for your support -- and please share on the socials even if you can't make a pledge at this time.

>>>BLACK EXCELLENCE BOOK CLUB - CHASIN THE BIRD
>> SATURDAY, JUNE 24th at 4PM on FACEBOOK LIVE!

Fantom Comics and Pop Culture Uncovered proudly present another installment in the Black Excellence Book Club series.

The graphic novel tells the story of Bird's time in L.A. starting in December 1945, where Bird and Dizzy Gillespie brought frenetic sounds of bebop from the East Coast jazz underground to the West Coast for a two-month residency at Billy Berg's Hollywood jazz club. This marked the beginning of a tumultuous two year-stint for Bird bumming around L.A., showing up at jam sessions, crashing on people's couches, causing havoc in public places, and recording some of his most groundbreaking tracks, 'A Night in Tunisia' and 'Ornithology,' as well as 'Relaxin' At Camarillo,' inspired by the end of his time in SoCal at the Camarillo State Hospital. The novel explores Bird's relationship with the characters and events he encountered during his time in L.A. including recording some of his signature songs with Dial Record founder Ross Russell, a brief but influential stay at the home of famed jazz photographer William Claxton, a party for the ages at the ranch home of artist Jirayr Zorthian, and others who found themselves in the orbit of the jazz genius. Featuring a Flexi Disk of Unreleased Charlie Parker Recordings

Meet and greet with Jerrod Allison, author and creator of Moon Wolf!

Moon Wolf, a mysterious and powerful superhero, grapples with the duality of his existence as he battles crime in the city of Lunastrum. Gifted with lunar-based abilities, Moon Wolf finds himself torn between the exhilarating rush of power and the destructive allure of addiction.

Moon Wolf: Origin is the intro to a gripping tale of self-discovery, sacrifice, and the battle against addiction. As the moon casts its eerie glow upon the city, Moon Wolf fights not only for the safety of the city but also for his own redemption, determined to prove that even in the face of addiction, true heroes can rise above and shine their light upon the shadows.

Jerrod himself is a creator and an artist. In his words, "I am to art what Prince was to funk."
