PCHH on Peacemaker

'Peacemaker' is a one-man (and one-joke) army

Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, Danielle Brooks, John Cena appear in a scene from Peacemaker.

HBO Max

The HBO Max series Peacemaker stars John Cena as a shiny-helmeted super soldier who loves peace so much he's willing, even eager, to slaughter folks to get it. It's a direct spinoff of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, and the series shares a lot of that movie's comedic DNA. And it, too, was written and directed by James Gunn.

This audio was produced by Rommel Wood and edited by Jessica Reedy.

Growing up as outcasts in the small desert town of Juniper, California, best friends Salahudin and Noor understand each other the way no one else does. That was until six months ago when The Fight destroyed their bond instantaneously. Now, Sal scrambles to run the family motel as his mother Misbah's health fails and his grieving father loses himself to alcoholism. Noor, meanwhile, walks a harrowing tightrope: working at her wrathful uncle's liquor store while hiding the fact that she's applying to college so she can escape him—and Juniper—forever. When Sal's attempts to save the motel spiral out of control, he and Noor must ask themselves what friendship is worth—and what it takes to defeat the monsters in their pasts and the ones in their midst. From bestselling author Sabaa Tahir comes a breathtaking novel of young love, old regrets, and forgiveness—one that's both tragic and poignant in its tender ferocity.

Ages 14 and up

A ticket purchase is required to attend the event. Ticket options include the following:

Sabaa Tahir is the bestselling author of the Ember in the Ashes fantasy series. She grew up in California's Mojave Desert at her family's eighteen-room motel. There, she spent her time devouring fantasy novels, raiding her brother's comic book stash, and playing guitar badly. She began writing books while working nights as a newspaper editor.

Refund requests may be made up to one day before the event begins.

Signed copies of Run at Fantom Comics

FACEBOOK LIVE BLACK EXCELLENCE BOOK CLUB - RUN (WE'VE GOT SIGNED COPIES!)

We had the lovely surprise of comics creator Andrew Aydin stopping by to sign copies of Run, Truth & Justice and March! Perfect timing as our black excellence book club for this month with Pop Culture Uncovered is on Run by Andrew Aydin, the late John Lewis and Nate Powell!

To John Lewis, the civil rights movement came to an end with the signing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. But that was after more than five years as one of the preeminent figures of the movement, leading sit-in protests and fighting segregation on interstate busways as an original Freedom Rider. It was after becoming chairman of SNCC (the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) and being the youngest speaker at the March on Washington. It was after helping organize the Mississippi Freedom Summer and the ensuing delegate challenge at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. And after coleading the march from Selma to Montgomery on what became known as 'Bloody Sunday.'

All too often, the depiction of history ends with a great victory. But John Lewis knew that victories are just the beginning. In Run Book One, John Lewis and longtime collaborator Andrew Aydin reteam with Nate Powell-the award-winning illustrator of the March trilogy-and are joined by L. Fury-making an astonishing graphic novel debut-to tell this often overlooked chapter of civil rights history.

Purchase your copy of Run in-store or on our website here: https://stores.comichub.com/fantom_comics/products/run-graphic-novel
