David Hagen at Civitans flea market on Saturday!

David Hagen tells me:

I'll be at this Saturday's Civitan's Flea Market with a pant load of paintings.
Robots, Alien Invasion, and Krakkens! What could go wrong?

The Civitan is on the parking deck over I-66 at Quincy Street and Washington-Lee High School. I bought a Krakken recently, but this one is awfully nice too.

Gary Groth's father has passed away

On Facebook, Gary Groth is reporting his father Howard Groth has passed away. For a long stretch, they lived outside DC in the suburbs. The elder Groth supported Gary's interest in comics, including helping him publish fanzines, which of course eventually led to Gary's role in co-founding Fantagraphics and publishing the Comics Journal with the late Kim Thompson.

ComicsDC sends its condolences to the Groth family.

Awesome Con grows to Indianapolis, Milwaukee

The founders of D.C.'s Awesome Con, which saw incredible growth this past April over its inaugural year in 2013, have announced plans to expand to other markets. Here's the press release:

"Hi, thanks again for being part of Awesome Con in April! After the amazing success we had in DC, we have decided to bring our brand of comic-con to Indianapolis and Milwaukee this fall, and I hope you will join us!

We will be at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis October 3-5, and the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee on November 21-23. We want to bring something new and exciting to these markets, and our expected attendance for each show is at least 20,000.

We are going to advertise as aggressively in Indianapolis and Milwaukee as we did in DC. We will be all over TV, radio, print, Facebook, and billboards in those respective cities. We also partner with local PR agencies to make sure the local media knows about us, and as you probably saw in DC, we are very good at getting our conventions in the news.

Please let me know if you have any questions that can't be answered by visiting our website. Exhibitor applications can be found for Indianapolis here and Milwaukee here. We're excited about bringing our brand of awesome to the Midwest, and hope to see you there!"
