Over the weekend, the industry event called Free Comic Book Day took the nation by storm! Held annually at local comic shops and other participating stores, FCBD is exactly what it sounds like: Come to your nearest funny book location and get free comics.
Just like last year, the artists behind Cartoonists Draw Blood brought their talents to participants in and around the DC-Metro area. They did sketches for kids and adults, handed out free comics, and signed people up for the blood drive. Our goal: To spread the word about the "Draw Blood" event and to make sure that everyone left with a smile on their face.
Remember: Cartoonists Draw Blood is May 31st at Seeker's Church in Washington, DC. To donate, simply e-mail us and schedule an appointment at CartoonistsDrawBlood@gmail.com

While her style is inimitably her own, Chast's story of aging parents will resonate with many. In four-color cartoon panels, photos, and text, Chast, a New Yorker contributor since 1978 and the author/illustrator of a dozen books, recounts her life with a needy father and strong-willed mother and faces their mental and physical deterioration with wit and honesty. (Bloomsbury)
Kalman, illustrator of many books for adults and children as well as The New Yorker magazine, recounts the third president's many achievements without claiming that he was perfect. Among Jefferson's shortcomings: owning slaves and disparaging Native Americans, despite preaching equality. Ages 5 – 8. (Nancy Paulsen)
This event has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at Takoma Park Library.

About DC Anime Club:
DCAC was established in 2003 to introduce and educate people in the Washington, DC area about East Asian culture, through viewing and discussion of Japanese animation (also known as anime) and Japanese comics (manga). DCAC is a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization, contributions to DC Anime Club are taxed deductible to the extent allowable under the law.
The club also works to provide a positive, alternative activity to the youth in the area by exposing them to foreign culture, encouraging artistic expression and creativity, and providing opportunities for participation in community activities and leadership.
In addition to our bi-weekly meetings, the club holds an Annual Art Show, an Annual Costume fundraising event, and visits local schools to do presentations on anime. The club also works with the Smithsonian Freer Gallery and DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival on their anime screenings, and has helped locally promote performances for Japanese bands such as Puffy Ami Yumi and Pine am. DC Anime Club was founded by Chris Wanamaker (President), Jules Chang (Former Vice President) and Craig Vaughn (Vice President) on Saturday June 5, 2003. We have a strong membership that continues to grow -- most of which are teenagers.

Roboy No.1 – Written by Brandon Easton, Aiden Cross looks like your average 12 year old boy, he's a video game pro, and unbeatable at kickball. Thing is Aiden isn't like other boys his age; he has super strength, can talk with computers and has glowing circuits in his body. Aiden is a robot (actually, he is more of an android but he just doesn't know it yet). Roboy follows Aidens adventures as he goes on a quest to find his creator while defending the city from an on-coming robot invasion.
Catalyst Prime: Quincredible No.1 – Written by David Gorden, a new cosmic event will spur the next great step in evolution. People who have randomly come into contact with powerful meteorites are gaining superhuman abilities. Now they must decide how to use their powers. Will it be for good or for evil? How will they function in a world that no longer makes any sense? How will they deal with the people that fear them and their new powers? And those who are willing to stop at nothing to exploit them?
Trimaxx No.1 – When Mayuri "Mo" O'Connor discovers that she is the only person in the world that can sync with and control the robotic guardian Trimaxx she embarks on a journey to become the world's greatest hero, protecting the planet from its greatest threat - the evil alien empire known as the Mechani.

OFFICIAL RELEASE:
Free Comic Book Day isn't just at your local comic shop, but also online. On Saturday, May 3, 2014, join artist Jay Payne and writer Troy-Jeffrey Allen (me!) as we unveil BamnComics.com
BamnComics.com will be the home to our weekly ongoing webseries about Bamn, a washed-up pro wrestler attempting to dismantle the hierarchy of Hayts High School. When a group of teenage misfits find themselves endlessly tormented by bullies, the kids require the services of the surly former world champion to teach them how to defend themselves. In the end, the teens might teach Bamn a thing or two, as well. If you love wrestling, nerds, action, comedy, or free things, then kick out and kick @$$ on May 3, 2014!
The site will be updated every Wednesday with a new installment. Also, this new site will be the place to go for news, artwork, and merchandise! Most importantly...it's free.
Be sure to visit us anytime after midnight on May 3rd and witness the Free Comic Day debut by simply going to www.BamnComics.com.
