OT: Nick Thorkelson & Harvey Pekar in NYC

Nick (who did the cover to the Interplanetary J... below) wrote in to say:

CUNY is hosting a promotion Monday night for SDS: A Graphic History, which has a story by me in it, that I will be presenting. Harvey Pekar, who wrote most of the book, will be there too. Here's the link, if you know anybody that might be interested: http://www.gothamcenter.org/forums/current.shtml (and if you want to see the comic I wrote for this, it's online at Http://nickthorkelson.com/hazardfinal01.htm ).

It's done!

And this isn't the cover! Although the photo by Gary Dumm may end up being the cover - that's the idea at the moment. But I sent the manuscript of Harvey Pekar: Conversations in to the University Press of Mississippi today and sometime in about a year (slightly longer than human gestation apparently) a book should pop out.

The Conversations books are collections of interviews over the career of cartoonists. You've got a couple of days left to get other books in the Conversations series in this website sale.

I've got almost all of the comics and cartoon books listed on the site.

OT: Oct 15: Pekar at Walsh University in North Canton, OH

Some readers may have noticed I've asked about a couple of Harvey Pekar interviews. That's because I'm compiling a book of them for the University of Mississippi Press. I think it's far enough along that mentioning it won't jinx it, and besides I wanted to post my friend Mark Roger's flier about Harvey's appearance. Note the FREE appearance at 7:30 PM on OCTOBER 15 at WALSH UNIVERSITY in NORTH CANTON, OHIO.

Harvey's pretty darned entertaining in person actually, and a nice guy. Everyone reading this blog, say within 8 hours drive, should go.

OT: Seeking Mike Barson, who did interviews for Heavy Metal

I'm trying to find Mike Barson, who did interviews for Heavy Metal in the 1980s. I'd like to reprint one of his interviews with Harvey Pekar. When I called HM today, they said they don't own the rights to his interviews and I should contact him. Anyone have any idea how to find him?
