That darn Zits and Six Chix

Get good [Zits letter]

Gordon O.F. Johnson, Alexandria

Washington Post April 12 2025: A17.

The "Zits" strip on March 30 struck a chord with me. Yes, we really must define "good."

I write this letter as I finish 98 years and begin my 100th. I spend far more time thinking about the past than the future. Over my lifetime, I have come to believe that the objective for humans here on Earth is a conversion from a "me first" baby to a state of togetherness where we all try to do good. I keep asking myself, what does "do good" really mean, and have I "fought the good fight"? There seems to be an infinite variety of shades between good and bad. Like beauty, it is hard to define because it lies in the eye of the beholder.

Reading the adjacent "Doonesbury" strip dealing with Elon Musk's chain-saw approach to "good" governance, we must ask how he and President Donald Trump answer the "Zits" question. They seem to be taking us back to a "me first" infancy.

Get smart [Six Chix letter]

Joan Wetmore, Neavitt, Maryland

Washington Post April 12 2025: A17.

I've been reading Post comics since I was a child, and I still begin every day with them before delving into the news. They always make me smile.

Well, almost always. Please ditch the dopey-but-not-in-a-good-way "Six Chix." I shudder to ponder the six chicks' collective IQ.
