George Booth, whose cartoon dogs became a New Yorker staple, dies at 96 [in print as Artist sketched out the New Yorker's comic sensibility]

His cartoons featured a menagerie of characters and a zany sense of humor. They ran in the New Yorker for more than a half-century.
