'Nightmare the Rat' is coming to the web

Cartoonist Rafer Roberts is taking his “Nightmare the Rat” cartoon from the pages of the Magic Bullet comics newspaper to the web, beginning Jan. 1. It will be updated weekly.

According to Roberts on the D.C. Conspiracy Tumblr, the first few weeks will reprint the strip up to date, and around mid-May the comic will start to publish a year’s worth of all new made-for-the-web content. ("It won’t be the larger 'Sunday' strips but a 'weekday' style adventure serial," he writes.) Roberts added that he will continue with the larger strips for Magic Bullet as well work on his comics series Plastic Farm.

Scouting for comics

Loya in 'The People vs. George Lucas"

Local cartoonist/artist Steve Loya’s childhood "Star Wars" drawings appeared in the 2010 documentary "The People vs. George Lucas." Steve talks about it on Facebook and links back to some postings on his blog.

"I'm so glad my mom and grandmother cherished and held on to my art from my childhood,” Loya writes.

Last night's Cartoons and Cocktails auction

The annual Cartoons and Cocktails charity auction was last night. I bought some art, and was a B-list local celebrity auctioneer with A-List cartoonist Matt Wuerker.

You'll have to go to Ohio's Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum to see a good collection of catalogs from previous years. I've given them the 2012 and 2013 catalogs which haven't been cataloged yet of course.

Joe Sacco (and others) at Politics and Prose

Joe Sacco did a nice talk about his new bookish-thing, The Great War, at Politics and Prose. The audience was far more World War 1 buffs than comics buffs, although cartoonists Art Hondros, Barbara Dale, and Michael Cavna were in the audience as well as journalist Peter Carlson and cartoon librarian Sara Duke. Politics and Prose eventually gets the video online.
