WaPo replaces Big Nate with Wallace the Brave

Lincoln Peirce ended Big Nate dalies with last Saturday's strip and to his credit he refused to let his syndicate sell it as a zombie strip. He's still doing new Sundays, as Foxtrot and Doonesbury have done before him.

Replacing him in the Post is one of the best current strips, Wallace the Brave rave. I'm looking forward to being able to read it every day.

When an ordinary, zoo-dwelling wombat gets her paws on a super-suit, she becomes Super Atomic Wombat Girl in this first book in the full-color middle grade graphic novel series perfect for fans of Dog Man, Captain Underpants, and The Bad Guys!

When a shipping snafu lands a government-developed super-suit in the Australian mammal exhibit at the local zoo, mild-mannered Wynter Wombat claims it for her own and becomes SUPER ATOMIC WOMBAT GIRL!

With help from the suit’s high-tech tools and her turbo-charged sidekick Pang! the pangolin, Super Atomic Wombat Girl heeds the call to protect the city. Her first mission is foiling the plans of ANVIL, a marauding gang of ill-intentioned, venomous reptiles and amphibians. Always loyal, brave, and true, Super Atomic Wombat Girl is the hero the world didn’t know it needed!

June 13: HORROR MANGAKA TALK: THE CURSED BODY BY KAWAKATSU TOKUSHIGE at Fantom Comics

HORROR MANGAKA TALK: THE CURSED BODY BY KAWAKATSU TOKUSHIGE
Mangaka Kawakatsu in conversation with translator Ryan Holmberg
>> SATURDAY, JUNE 13th @ 6:30pm
Our first-ever mangaka event!! Fantom friend/scholar/translator Ryan Holmberg brings influential alt-manga artist/editor/historian Kawakatsu Tokushige here to DC for a signing and book launch of his debut english publication, THE CURSED BODY.
“The Cursed Body collects two long stories from Kawakatsu’s ‘mysterious manga’ magazine Kagyu. ‘Cat Head Isle’ follows a group of three friends who boat out to a small, isolated island. The sole presence on the island is a cat shrine, but as they explore the friends start to exhibit increasingly erratic behavior. ‘Willow Weep For Me’ is the story of a mother and son who encounter a mysterious beggar on an afternoon walk. After the beggar’s body is fished up from the river later that evening, the strange and gruesome events begin to mount. Both stories are deeply influenced by kashihon (historical rental manga) and the classic ghost story form, and illustrate the author’s deep reading of Japanese and English literary traditions.”
