Flugennock's Latest'n'Greatest: "A Stinkin' Rebellion"

From DC's anarchist cartoonist Mike Flugennock

"A Stinkin' Rebellion"
http://sinkers.org/stage/?p=2817

So, aaaaanyway... the resolute doorknobs at Extinction Rebellion have staged a protest involving spray-painting your hand red, leaving a "bloody" handprint on a government building or corporate HQ, then looking for a cop to turn yourself in. Yeah, that's right.

This empty dipshittery follows an earlier debacle on the London Tube in which XR tried to shut down the subways, resulting in protesters being roughed up, beaten and thrown off the trains by irate commuters.

Now, I'm no tactical expert, but it seems that a subway-blocking action would go down best when you've reached the point where things are so bad that the streets are already full of fed-up, pissed-off people, and the general strike is already underway. Otherwise, you're just pissing off the working class.

Randall Munroe, "How To".

Alexandra Petri
Published on Oct 19, 2019

Randall Munroe discusses his book, "How To". Randall Munroe, the brilliant mind behind the wildly popular webcomic xkcd and the #1 New York Times bestsellers What If? and Thing Explainer, brings readers a way to better understand the science and technology behind the things we do every day with How To: Absurd Scientific Advice for Common Real-World Problems. For any task you might want to do, there's a right way, a wrong way, and a way so monumentally complex, excessive, and inadvisable that no one would ever try it. How To is a guide to the third kind of approach. It's full of highly impractical advice for everything from landing a plane to digging a hole. Munroe teaches you how to tell if you're a baby boomer or a 90's kid by measuring the radioactivity of your teeth, gives instructions on powering your house by destroying the fabric of space-time, and even offers tips for taking a selfie with a telescope. By exploring the most complicated ways to do simple tasks, Munroe doesn't just make things difficult for himself and his readers, he invites us to explore the most absurd reaches of the possible. Munroe is in conversation with American humorist and Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri.

Contest for advance copy of Robin Ha's new book ALMOST AMERICAN GIRL

Enter to win an advance copy of ALMOST AMERICAN GIRL

A powerful and timely teen graphic novel memoir—perfect for fans of American Born Chinese and Hey, Kiddo—about a Korean-born, non-English-speaking girl who is abruptly transplanted from Seoul to Huntsville, Alabama, and struggles with extreme culture shock and isolation, until she discovers her passion for comic arts.

For as long as she can remember, it's been Robin and her mom against the world. Growing up in the 1990s as the only child of a single mother in Seoul, Korea, wasn't always easy, but it has bonded them fiercely together.

So when a vacation to visit friends in Huntsville, Alabama, unexpectedly becomes a permanent relocation—following her mother's announcement that she's getting married—Robin is devastated. Overnight, her life changes. She is dropped into a new school where she doesn't understand the language and struggles to keep up. She is completely cut off from her friends at home and has no access to her beloved comics. At home, she doesn't fit in with her new stepfamily. And worst of all, she is furious with the one person she is closest to—her mother.

Then one day Robin's mother enrolls her in a local comic drawing class, which opens the window to a future Robin could never have imagined.

Join audiophile Jeremiah Foxwell in an engaging discussion of the life of Robert Johnson. Love in Vain: Robert Johnson 1911-1938 is the thrilling graphic novel telling of the life of Robert Johnson, the legendary bluesman who died over 75 years ago.

From 'Crossroads Blues' to 'Sweet Home Chicago', 'Hellhound on My Trail' to 'Come On In My Kitchen', Robert Johnson wrote some of the most enduring and formative songs of the original blues era, songs that would go on to help shape the birth of rock 'n' roll in the 1960s. Beloved of Clapton, Dylan and the Stones, Robert Johnson remains one of the most iconic and mythologized figures in popular music (and the first of many to die at the age of 27). Born in the in the South in Mississippi, Johnson made his way to the urban North as a traveling musician, but it was only when he returned to the South that he recorded the twenty-nine songs, in two sessions, which would create his legacy.

Exploring the stories and legends that surround his life and death — his childhood, his womanizing, his pact with the devil at the crossroads — Mezzo and DuPont have produced a fittingly creative and beautiful depiction of this most extraordinary life.

TCJ.com published Steve Canyon history by local journalist

I'm on the road today so Michael O'Connell Wrote a blurb for me about his sweet story.

Richard A. Bauman was a Coast Guard rear admiral who loved the Steve Canyon comic strip by Milton Caniff. Not only did he collect every daily strip for 41 years, he corresponded with Caniff and received several pieces of personalized artwork from the artist. One drawing even found Bauman while he was stationed in Saigon during the Vietnam War.

For the last seven years, Northern Virginia journalist Michael O'Connell has been researching Bauman and his collection, talking to Bauman's family and digging through the archives at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at The Ohio State University. The results of his research reveal a four-decades long love story between Bauman and his wife Dorothy and an unlikely connection with Air Force officer and comic strip hero, Steve Canyon. You can read that story today via The Comics Journal.

From DC's anarchist cartoonist Mike Flugennock:

"Don't Ask Us How We Know..."
http://sinkers.org/stage/?p=2811

In the midst of the Democrats' exercise in wasting time and hoping people don't notice what a bunch of crying-ass losers they are — uhh, that is, the impeachment inquiry, Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal remarked that no inquiry was needed, and that "...People should stop looking for a secret smoking gun. Donald Trump is the smoking gun."

So, basically, the bunch who crashed and burned in 2016 and cratered with Russiagate are cooking up an impeachment "inquiry" that will probably drag out until the Conventions and telling us "really, trust us, we've got this, really this time. Don't ask us how we know, we just know, OK?"
