March 29: Philharmonia Fantastique at the Kennedy Center

An adventure through the Orchestra!

NSO Family Concert

Philharmonia Fantastique:

The Making of an Orchestra

Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. | Concert Hall

Told through a mesmerizing hybrid of animated and live action filming, a magical Sprite embarks on a musical journey through the inner workings of an orchestra! Violin strings vibrate, brass valves slice air, and drumheads resonate like you've never seen before—all set to live music from the National Symphony Orchestra. By the film's end, the orchestra comes together in a spectacular finale!

Conducted by Michelle Merrill and written by former Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Mason Bates, this NSO commission was co-created with Academy Award–nominated director/writer Gary Rydstrom and Academy Award–nominated animator Jim Capobianco.
