WHAT: Cartoons & Cocktails, D.C.'s largest auction of original political cartoons by the nation's top cartoonists. News personalities will auction dozens of cartoons, while guests enjoy an open bar, tapas and dessert buffet. More than 200 cartoons will be available through live and silent auctions.

Admission: This event is open to the public. Tickets are $50 and will be available at the door or can be charged by calling the National Press Club's ticket hotline (202-662-7501) in advance.

BACKGROUND: This year's program marks the 19th annual Cartoons & Cocktails auction. This sale of original editorial cartoon art from across the country and beyond will benefit Young D.C., the independent newspaper by and for D.C., Maryland and Virginia teens, and the Cartoonists Rights Network, an organization dedicated to assisting international editorial cartoonists who face threats, imprisonment or death for their commentary. Proceeds also will fund the National Press Club's Ellen Masin Persina Scholarship for Minorities in Journalism and the national Young D.C. scholarship for an aspiring editorial cartoonist.
