By Bora Mici
February 26, 2011
http://gaithersburg.patch.com/articles/a-portrait-of-the-artist-marcie-wolf-hubbard

Mici writes, "Mousetrapped," a 15-piece graphic novel about her seven-month-long effort to curb and permanently put an end to a mouse infestation in her 1923 SEARS home in Silver Spring, is currently on view at The Arts Barn in Gaithersburg.

Buy Dark Horse Presents #1 for Finder, but you've got a choice of 3 covers.

DC's Carla Speed McNeil is in the comic, but if you buy Dark Horse Presents #1 for Finder, you've got a choice of 3 covers.

From the Dark Horse blog: http://www.darkhorse.com/Blog/273/paul-pope-covers-dark-horse-presents-1-special-ult

Paul Pope covers Dark Horse Presents #1 with special ultra-rare variant cover!

As excitement about the relaunch of the legendary anthology comic Dark Horse Presents builds, Dark Horse president and publisher Mike Richardson—who's also personally editing DHP's anticipated return—is adding another thrilling creator to the premiere issue's roster. In addition to the main cover by Paul Chadwick and Frank Miller's variant cover, an ultra-rare variant by Paul Pope (cover artist for The Escapists, the original and historic run of Dark Horse Presents, Marvel's Strange Tales, DC's Wednesday Comics) will also adorn Dark Horse Presents #1.

Retailers who buy twenty copies of DHP #1 featuring the Chadwick cover, the Miller cover, or a combination of both will receive a copy of DHP #1 featuring the ultra-rare variant cover (available only while supplies last), signed by one of the book's iconic creators. For each additional twenty copies ordered, another ultra-rare variant edition will be received, and each will feature a new signature.

Fans and comic collectors, ask your local retailer about how to get a copy of this exclusive variant-cover issue!

The thrilling lead-in to DHP's relaunch continues today on the Dark Horse blog, when we'll reveal the two covers to issue #2. Be there!

latebreaking Harvey Pekar: Conversations review

I was just sent a review of a book I edited a couple of years ago -

Harvey Pekar: Conversations

Jordana Hall
Shofar (Winter 2011; 29:2), p. 190-192

- in which Ms. Hall says in conclusion, "To those unfamiliar with American Splendor, Conversations is an excellent introduction to the comics and their creator. To fans of Pekar's work, the book provides insight into the author, his personal tastes, and his creative process. What is more, the conversations with his artist collaborators offer an inside look at the entire production process. Taken together the twenty-one interviews are informative and entertaining, with humorous outbursts from Joyce Brabner, who also gets her say in the later pieces. Harvey Pekar: Conversations is an important book for any scholar or enthusiast of comics."

Ahhh. Thank you Ms. Hall.

Main Reading Room Open House on Presidents' Day

Twice each year, the Library of Congress opens its magnificent Main Reading Room for a special public open house. The winter open house will take place on the federal Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day) holiday, Monday, February 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Main Reading Room is located on the first floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street, S.E. Washington, DC.  The Main Reading Room will be open to general visitors, who will also be allowed to take pictures. Reference librarians will be available to demonstrate the Library's online resources and discuss access to the Library's vast onsite collections, including services and collections for use in family history research.    No other reference services will be available and all other Library of Congress reading rooms and buildings will be closed.

The Thomas Jefferson Building also features The Great Hall and the Library of Congress Experience, which encompasses three exhibitions, including "Creating the United States."  This exhibition offers a remarkable opportunity to learn in a fresh, new way how the founding documents that emerged from this period, such as the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights, were forged out of insight, invention, and creativity, as well as collaboration and much compromise.  The Library of Congress Experience provides innovative access to rare cultural treasures in ways that inspire and engage.

Unreserved guided tours of the Thomas Jefferson Building will be offered at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Public tours, which are limited to 40 people, are designed to accommodate individuals and families, not large groups. More information about the Library or tours is available at the orientation desks at www.loc.gov/visit/ or by calling (202) 707-8000.

The Library of Congress, the nation's oldest federal cultural institution, is the world's preeminent reservoir of knowledge, providing unparalleled integrated resources to Congress and the American people. Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution. The Library seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs and exhibitions. Many of the Library's rich resources can be accessed through its website at www.loc.gov and via interactive exhibitions on a personalized website at myLOC.gov.

Bill McKay interview coming soon

Bill McKay, who is currently working on Zombies Vs. Cheerleaders has done a Washington City Paper interview with me that's coming soon.

OT: Guy Billout interviewed by David Paccia

Guy Billout, one of my favorite magazine illustrator/cartoonists is interviewed -

Guy Billout - Cartoonist/Artist Survey #208
David Paccia
David-Wasting-Paper blog February 2, 2011

- check him out. I read the Atlantic JUST to see his work.

Nick Galifianakis book tour reports

Nick Galifianakis (whom I interviewed for the City Paper) is reporting about the West Coast leg of his book tour in tiny increments on Facebook. With his permission, here's some of his photographs and comments from the tour. But first, here's a video from a book launch party.

Kate Michael, aka kstreetkate has a YouTube interview with him up, of which she says, "Nick Galifianakis' funniest topics to cartoon and comment upon are human relationships. At a book launch party for his latest "If You Loved Me, You'd Think This Was Cute," hosted at the home of the Washington Post's Katherine Weymouth, Galifiankis dishes on what interactions he finds the most humorous - and why men might want to read up on his subjects!" She's got an earlier interview video with him online in The District Dish too.

And now, here's Nick!

"Seattle! Open, warm and wet - JUST the way I like my book signings!"

"Powell's rocked! Great crowd. Thank you Portland - I was even inspired get a tattoo. And pierced."

"Thank you, San Fran! I got some practice in."

"In honor of my Book Signing in LA, I present the first cartoon I drew when I moved there."

"LA highlights (in any order): meeting devoted fans, hanging with my cuz...and Helena Bonham Carter helping me set up."
