Tom Toles comic reprinted on web

Tom Toles' 1999 comic panel Randolph Itch, 2 a.m. became a webcomic yesterday at GoComics. These date from before Toles moved to Washington to succeed Herblock at The Post.

 GoComics describes it as:

Dreaming in black-and-white has never been so colorful. Read the latest thought-provoking work from Pulitzer-Prize winning cartoonist Tom Toles. Randolph Itch 2AM is an expansion from Toles' editorial artwork toward a comic series based on his mind's wanderings while battling insomnia. It's a perfect display of a high-concept imagination and a wonderfully funny and continuing storyline.

Book signing photos - Jonathan Luna

Cub reporter Robert Montgomery went to Jonathan Luna's book signing at Laughing Ogre today and reports, "I went over a bit after 12, when it started, and there was not a line. There were a couple of people after he finished with me." Since he was buying me a copy of Luna's illustrated novel Star Bright for Christmas, I asked him to take some photographs too.

Santa Clinton?

Here's a special Christmas treat for ComicsDC readers.

Anybody have any idea what this cartoon is from, and who did it? (don't click through to see the original yet)

Capital Christmas - Richard Thompson

No? How about this one?

Capital Christmas - Kevin Rechin

This?

Capital Christmas - Nick Galifianakis

Or these?

Capital Christmas - Joe Azar

Capital Christmas - Ron Coddington

Capital Christmas - Peter Steiner

Capital Christmas - Sam Ward

Capital Christmas - Mike Lane

Capital Christmas - John Kascht

They were originally grouped like this:

Capital Christmas - bag 2

Scroll down for the answer:

Give up? It's a shopping bag from Tyson's Corner mall from 1994.

 Capital Christmas bag

According to Kirstin Downey Grimsley in the Washington Post (November 1, 1994), "This year Tysons Corner Center is unveiling something specially designed for the mall. Mall spokesmen are calling it 'A Capital Christmas,' and it will offer a whimsical greeting tied to the region's role as nation's capital."Apparently that included a shopping bag with "cartoon illustrations of President Bill Clinton portraying Santa Claus." The cartoons (in this order) are by local creators Richard Thompson, Kevin Rechin, Nick Galifianakis, Joe Azar, Ron Coddington, Peter Steiner, Sam Ward, Mike Lane and John Kascht - some of whom have since moved out of the area.

Thanks to Richard Thompson for the gift of the bag and to he and Nick for identifying some of the cartoonists. Easier-to-read greyscale illustrations can be seen here.

Repost: An unemployed cartoonist needs your help

As I've noted here before, Bill won the RFK Journalism award in DC a few years ago, but that didn't help keep his newspaper job.

Bill Day Fundraising Update - $22,000 and climbing!

by Daryl Cagle

As our campaign to help unemployed cartoonist Bill Day from losing his home enters its third week, we need your help more than ever to achieve our goal of raising $35,000.

So far, we've raised over $22,000, but we're also at the point where many campaigns start to lose steam. Don't let that happen to Bill!

Click here to donate to the Bill Day fundraising drive

If you haven't donated yet, please consider doing so today. Not only would you be helping one of America's top political cartoonists continue working, you can receive some great gifts in return, such as an eBook featuring Bill's work, a signed print or even an original piece of Bill Day artwork.

If you have already contributed, consider forwarding this email to a friend or co-worker. With Christmas approaching, what better gift can someone give than helping a brilliant cartoonist in his time of need?

Thank you again for your generosity and commitment to political cartoons! The outpouring of support for Bill has been tremendous, and if we can keep this momentum going, I'm sure we'll be successful in keeping Bill drawing!

Attend ALL 6 Of Our November to Remember In-Store Signing Events and Get a FREE VIP Pass for 1 Hour Early Admission to Our 12/22 Signing with
BRIAN POSEHN

SIGNING FROM 11AM to 1PM
Hello Third Eye Faithful!

When I first saw the GREAT PACIFIC in my inbox, I knew just from looking at the cover that this book was going to be something special. There's just a sense of spine-tingling anticipation that you get when you see a book you KNOW is going to be great, and GREAT PACIFIC is definitely one of those kinds of books.

This week, we round out our NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER with this killer release party signing for the second issue of Joe Harris's GREAT PACIFIC.

As one of the hottest new IMAGE titles to debut this winter, we were honored when Joe decided to kick off the release of this issue here at Third Eye, and we are totally stoked for you guys to meet this talented comics writer.

What is it that makes GREAT PACIFIC so special? The combination of smart, real world storytelling with a sci-fi tinge mixed with the gorgeous, sweeping, widescreen art of Martin Morazzo really makes the book pop.

With issues 1 & 2 already going to second printings, the book has really taken off as one of the hottest IMAGE books of the winter, but never fear: we've got plenty of 1st prints in stock to get you hooked up this weekend!

Third Eye Faithful, we'd be honored to see you all out for this one, and to get the opportunity to expose you to one of the most exciting new releases from IMAGE this year.
Get the rare PHANTOM VARIANTS of GREAT PACIFIC #1 & #2, in addition to the regular covers!
We know that these Phantom Variant editions of books have been very hard to come by, but as one of only 25 stores worldwide who're offering the Phantom Variants, we're pretty pumped to have both Phantom editions of GREAT PACIFIC #1 & GREAT PACIFIC #2 available for you guys at Third Eye.

This is a great opportunity to snag something totally unique, and get it signed by the creator of the series himself, Joe Harris.

Plus, these covers are both gorgeous, and really do add something nice to the book.

We will have limited quantities of the Phantom variants of GREAT PACIFIC #1 & GREAT PACIFIC #2 available for the signing tomorrow.

Be One Of The First 15 In Line & Receive a Very Special FREE Gift!

We always appreciate it when you guys turn up early, and bring a kick-ass line to the signing, so we try to give back by having something special for you guys who're diehard fans and willing to wait for doors to open for the signing.

Trust me, there's nothing that makes us, or the creators happier, than seeing a ton of happy, excited Third Eye Faithful waiting to meet them.

Joe is bringing down something very special for the signing for us to give out to the first 15 of you guys who're in line for the signing. We got a sneak peek... and it's a VERY cool item, something that's been limited to this event.

Haven't Read GREAT PACIFIC yet? Here's the scoop!

A must-read for fans of series like Y: THE LAST MAN, THE MASSIVE, and DMZ, GREAT PACIFIC is the story of Chas Worthington, a man who dreams of big things, solving bigger problems, and making his mark on the world.

Only no one takes the twenty-one year old heir to one of the biggest oil fortunes in history very seriously. That is, until he turns his back on his cushy life of wealth and prestige, and seeks to solve an environmental disaster twice the size of his native Texas known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

A fantastic blend of real-world fact (the Garbage Patch is real!), smart science fiction, and all around great storytelling, GREAT PACIFIC brings you that trademark IMAGE COMICS flair for innovative storytelling, strong characterization, and gorgeous artwork.

It's one of our favorite new releases from the publisher this winter, and we really can't recommend the book enough.

So far, there's only two issues of the series out, and we'll have plenty of copies of both issue 1 & issue 2 in stock for the signing this Saturday.

Click here for the event info on FACEBOOK.

What is Third Eye's NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER?
So, many of you guys may already know that we're hosting a HUGE year-ender signing with comedian and actor BRIAN POSEHN, who also just so happens to be the writer of the brand new DEADPOOL series for MARVEL NOW.

Due to the fact that this is a rare East Coast appearance for Brian, and the ONLY East Coast signing appearance he's making for DEADPOOL, we know that this is going to be a whopper.

Fear not though, Third Eye Faithful, 'cause we want to make sure you guys all get plenty of time to meet Brian, and get all your stuff signed!

Much like we did last year with our 6 WEEK HEART ATTACK leading up to our signing with G4TV's BLAIR BUTLER, we're going to be running a special promotion that allows you to earn a one-hour early admission VIP pass to get in early for our signing with Brian.

You're probably asking right now: OK, so how do I do that?

If you attend all 6, which would fill your card, then you can redeem it at the last signing on 12/8 for a special VIP Early Admission Pass which will get you in one hour early for our signing with Brian Posehn on 12/22.

What's our schedule look like for NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER? You can either read on below, or click here to read more.
